through trial and error I FINALLY figured it out and want to help you girlies out too:

(also of course everyone is different this is just what worked for ME)

šŸ“ summary sheets after lectures: no more writing out the lectures or trying to study of off dense PowerPoint slides for me… making 1/2/3 page summaries (depending on the lecture) was KEY for me and the best way was making them the day or night after the lecture because it was fresh in my brain

šŸ’ spaced repetition: anki anki anki was my liiiifesaver but also any type of flash card situation would work! this saved me from cramming the night before exams and I found especially helpful when I first started med school because it helped me stay on track and get used to studying every day (with breaks of course duh we’re balanced)

šŸ“š knowing when to use outside resources… and when it’s too much: certain lectures were fine on their own BUT some (the ones that assumed you knew basic science concepts really well) meant I needed to go outside my schools resources for some extra learning. Thank goodness for the internet and resources such as osmosis, medschoolbootcamp, etc because they helped me so much. Before I started using these in the right way I was SO overwhelmed and frustrated that I didn’t know what was going on (especially any biochem stuff during foundations!)

šŸ—’ļø practice questions/testing myself: silly me that I didn’t realize I actually had to test my brain!

šŸ“– active recall/teach it method: again… I felt silly that I didn’t realize this was so effective! It helped ā€œwake upā€ my brain instead of just passively rereading my notes all the time!! Once I pretended to teach subjects during my study sessions, and I felt confident ā€œteachingā€ a topic, I knew I was ready for an exam!

šŸ«¶šŸ» giving myself grace in the beginning: it was a learning CURVE adjusting to the volume of stuff med school requires you to learn, plus clinical skills, etc etc etc… so when I stopped being so hard on myself I actually felt more relaxed and my marks and understanding went UP.

you got this, non trad premeds do just as well, you’re gonna be a great doctor one day šŸ«¶šŸ»šŸ¤šŸ©ŗ

ā€œI can’t wait for residencyā€ or ā€œI can’t wait until I’m a full doctorā€ or ā€œI can’t wait until I move hereā€ or ā€œI can’t wait to be a momā€ ….

It’s all in due time and I find it SO hard not to always be wishing for the next phase of life so I’m really trying ti soak in what it feels like right now being 27, living with my best friend, learning and loving med school.

3 ways to romanticize your summer (med student edition):

šŸ“š study space revamp: okaaaaay the sun is OUT but you still need to put in the work to study or finish research (me šŸ™‹šŸ¼ā€ā™€ļø) or work on applications… don’t worry you can still enjoy the change in weather!! This is the PERFECT time to find a new study spot so this is your sign to revamp your outdoor balcony to be the perfect study space (the key is to set it up perfectly so you can transition to outdoor studying seamlessly, OR find the cutest cafĆ© that has a sunny sunny sunny big window and spot for you to become a regular in (hi @thetipsymusecafe I’ll be seeing you whenever I do research this summer)

ā˜€ļø summer bucket list: okay hear me out… you’re 10 years old and summer feels like MAGIC. Now how do we recreate this when we’re now in our 20s and need to work/study?? A bucket list is the key. Make it as small as you want but put cutie little summer activities and try and do a few a week to bring back some ✨ magic✨ to your summer. Some little things I’ve added to mine are: drive in movie, ice cream date at sunset, sunset swim, picnic date, etc (so they don’t need to be crazy big!!)

ā˜ļø stop comparing: it is SO hard not to compare your summer to those online!! Trust me I see my fave content creators living it UP in the south of France rn for cannes and I find myself getting jealous and hating my summer plans!! But then I take a step back and remember wait it’s not real life (yet… give me a few years and you’ll be seeing me there!! šŸ¤žšŸ») so this is a sign for you to stop comparing your summer plans to others online!! Everyone has different life plans, money situations, goals, have worked REALLY hard to be able to take a month off, etc so you do you and keep working hard šŸ‘šŸ»

okay so you don’t NEED any of this but everyone’s been asking me what clothes they should buy in my DMs soooo here ya go:

🩺 clinical skills days: for my school we had to dress ā€œbusiness professionalā€ for any clinical skills days so that meant no jeans/short skirts etc (self explanatory really) which meant I needed a good supply of dress pants! I loved the effortless pants and the alanya pants from @aritzia and honestly own like 6 pairs so I never ran out! I personally found pants easier than a dress or long skirt so nothing gets in the way when you’re learning and working on patients! For tops I went with nice light blouses (short sleeve but never like spaghetti straps duh, and long sleeve chiffon material/buttons ups) and tucked them into my pants! They looked professional and were comfy enough to work it!

šŸ„ hospital/clinic days: usually for clinic days you either wear business professional like the above things I described orrrrrr scrubs depending on the clinic. If you’re excited and eager then for sure get a pair of scrubs (it’s always nice to have just in case) BUT most hospitals have issued scrubs you wear and these are great to wear at first so you can kind of get a feel for the vibe of what people are wearing on hospital shifts! A comfy pair of shoes is also a must so like a nice dressy sneaker for clinic days, and any kind of comfy shoe for OR or OB/Gyn (I have pink crocs) or ER shifts (sneakers!).

šŸ“š study library days: COMFY clothes are key like I need zero tight clothes on me while I’m curled up in the library studying. I love @aritzia matching sweatsuits, @lululemon sets in the summer. I like looking out together when I’m at the library but honestly you can wear WHATEVER nobody judges you.

šŸ“– school/lectures: less strict at least for my school! People really wore whatever! No need to dress fancy but also I wouldn’t recommend like sweatpants/crop tops/spaghetti straps etc because it’s still a professional environment and while you’re on campus you’ll probably see professors/doctors who you work with so šŸ’šŸ¼ā€ā™€ļø

…. Did I miss anything?
