I finally set up the Hogwarts Express around our tree this year and it’s honestly one of my favorite little projects so far. I’ve been slowly collecting the @department56 Harry Potter village pieces, and a lot of what you see here including the castle and several buildings came from Facebook Marketplace. The train did too. The rest are mostly from @macys who consistently have the best sales on the village near the holidays.

This is an older “O-gauge” model of the @lionel_trains Hogwarts Express. The newer ones have sleeker control, Bluetooth, and the steam function on mine doesn’t work anymore, but I wanted something metal and heavy that looked beautiful going around the tree. So I hunted a used one down and made it work.

A few things that helped when I was setting this up:
• Using boxes or risers to give the buildings different heights
• adding small details like the street lamps and ornaments
• Hiding the cords with snow and putting power strips in the tree collar
• Searching Marketplace like its my job

In love with this cozy little setup that makes my office feel extra magical at night

I’ve had this light fixture sitting in a closet since we moved. It was actually my very first big Harry Potter purchase, but it lived in a condo we used as a rental, so I never got to enjoy it myself.

I loved the drum light that was here before, but there’s no denying this Hedwig pendant is iconic. It’s exactly the vibe I wanted for my office.

The Hogwarts drum light has been discontinued, but the Hedwig pendant is still available on their site. It usually goes on sale about once a year like most major Pottery Barn pieces, so keep an eye out. I’ll share if I see it! 🕯️✨

✨ Four extra-large bags of poly-fill, two cans of spray glue, two bedsheets, LED lights, floating candles, and some fishing line later… here’s the result 😜

I’m convinced you can put anything under a cloche and it instantly looks classy 💅

And yes, I know what you’re thinking. This was already in a cloche 😅 True! But the original paint job wasn’t giving “cabinet of curiosities” so I decided to give this little guy a glow-up.

A little acetone made it easy to separate the glass and remove the glue from the base. Then I went in with black spray paint, some air-dry clay, moss, lights, and a tiny tree. Voilà ✨ Now he’s ready for a spot on my Halloween shelves.
