I’m definitely still learning when it’s ok to stop. This would have worked out better two layers before I actually finished.

I love the pink/purple cloud of a San Diego sunset so this is something I really want to get right!

But seriously there have been several times where I have cried because I just can’t seem to see the light at the end of tunnel. I feel like I’m not making progress. I feel like I’m so far from functional.

But here I am at neutral! High five!🙌🏼

Love how this turned out! I used to make watercolor greeting cards with designs like this to sell as sets and they were always so fun to make. Each one was alway unique.

It’s super convenient to have metallics included in the @meeden.art paint palette.

Navigating my healing journey through the daily pages of my Hobonichi. I love sharing parts of my journey here on Instagram but there are definitely pieces of this journey that feel personal and too vulnerable to share.

10/100 Heart

Sweet and simple. Just what I need. I miss being able to just sit and paint or draw. Simple things like grabbing something I forgot now take so much longer to grab. Finding a comfortable position for my leg can also be challenging.

I thought I’d finally be able to sit and focus but there are so many things I took for granted when it came to basic moving around.

I know this will get better. One day at a time.

9/100 Lavender

Love how this came out. It started off with just playing around with a background and turned into this pretty little lavender flower.

I’ve always loved the smell of lavender, but lately have been loving the flavor of lavender in my coffee drinks. I’ve even made my own lavender syrup to add to my coffees. Delicious!

First off, excuse the background noise. My daughter was eating chips next to me and I didn’t realize how loud they are! 🫣

Saw these at the grocery store and had to grab them. These are Fruit Riot Sour Mango! Real frozen mango coated in sour candy!

So good!! Unfortunately I’m the only one in the family that enjoys these, but I’ve always loved sour candy so it was a no-brainer for me!

Upgraded my Apple Watch band to a more breathable and comfortable one. I have been using the default band for years and always disliked how sweaty my wrist would get even when it wasn’t too hot. I like how this
band almost feels so soft and comfy.

Recovery Vlog - 4 Weeks Post-Op

I’m a bit behind on progress. I should have touched the heel lifts by now. But it’s because I’ve been too cautious to really work beyond what felt comfortable.

Such a metaphor for my own life!

I’ve always been too timid to go beyond my comfort zone. It’s held me back in recovery and it holds me back in life.

I’ve gotten more guidance from my doctor as to how far I can go and I’m ready to face the discomfort. It’s an important part of the healing process. In all aspects of life.

Who knew that this recovery was going to be deeper than just the physical??

My hands are a big part of my content creating process. Flowery was so kind to send me their cuticle butter to try out. I’m always looking for products to help me keep my nails looking camera ready!

I love the butterbeer drinks they sell at Universal Studios so I obviously had to try these butterbeer flavored goldfish!

It’s sweet, almost more graham cracker tasting with a hint of butterscotch. I’d love more butterscotch flavor, but it’s still a good little snack!

Recovery Vlog

Three week post-op. One week in boot.

There’s progress! More movement. Walking around in crutches is so much easier now that I can put this foot down for added stability (with minimal weight bearing).

There have been days where I just feel so discouraged.

It takes 20 steps and adjustments just to do something that would normally take one easy movement to complete. Forget carrying something from one room to another while on crutches! I need my hands to just get from point A to B!

But I know it’s temporary. But it feels like such a looooong temporary moment of my life. But I’m getting through it. One day at a time.

8/100 Into The Sun

Yes. Slowly and surely getting back to @dothe100dayproject as I’m increasingly able to sit at my table and create more.

I know I’m crazy behind, but I’ll either catch up eventually, or just go at my own pace. We’ll see what my body is capable of.

Love this galaxy. Sold a few on eBay a month or two ago. Planning on listing this one too. Still trying to figure out if I list as I progress through the challenge or finish the challenge then the start listing…

Recovery Vlog

2 weeks post op and I had my first appointment with my orthopedic surgeon. He said the healing looks great. My foot looks great. Everything attached the way it should have. So glad!

I’m officially in the boot with heel lifts inside although I can’t yet reach them based on the current angle of my foot.

Not sure the exact timeline of when my Achilles will stretch out to eventually touch them, but with consistent work, I’m sure I’ll get close by the next appointment.

I’m allowed touch-weight bearing which means I can use my foot for balance along with my crutches, but minimal weight applied. I hope that allows me to be more helpful again for our day to activities.

Overall, happy with what I heard and what I need to be doing.

My main goal is just to be driving again. But I know that will come in time and with patience.

My first time out since the surgery and we went to Church. It’s been awhile since it’s felt swollen or sensitive to changes how high or low I have my leg, so it felt like a good time to start feeling like a member of society.

The scooter is also a lot more fun to roll around on when on a floor or concrete than it is on carpet!

Now to elevate and ice before it starts to feel like it’s been through too much!

Recovery Vlog!

Officially one week post-op. One more week like this but definitely going to start incorporating a bit more normalcy to my days.

Doing things as simple as putting my contacts on and applying eyeliner today really set a different tone to my day. Made me feel just a bit more present and more willing to try to manage certain things on my own instead of calling on my husband or kids.

Of course, I’m still taking things slowly and only doing what my body feels capable of at the moment. I would love to be up and about but I know the healing takes time and mindfulness.

I’ve never been know to be a patient person, so this is all such a huge mindset shift. I’m hoping to keep the crashouts to a minimum.

Recovery Vlog

Almost a week since my surgery. No weight bearing, keeping it elevated and iced as much as possible. One more week of this.

I’m also making sure I wiggle my toes and move both my legs to prevent clots due to my inactivity and I’m also taking Asprin.

Yes, I’m bored, but grateful things feel relatively ok during this post-op phase.

So who’s interested in a recovery vlog series?

I have been dealing with Achilles tendonitis off and on for several years now and I knew this could eventually happen. I just wish it wasn’t now. My husband just started a job (thankfully it’s remote with a bit of flexibility) and now has to juggle all the kid transportation things on top of carrying for me.

I’m looking forward to the 8-week mark when I gain a little bit for independence back because I’m so used to being on-the-go, especially with the kid stuff.

I’m fine for now but it did really take a toll on me mentally. The mental blow has so far hurt more than my physical injury but im slowly processing and gaining a bit more clarity and acceptance on this situation.

Stay tuned while I try to figure out how to incorporate LTK into this journey as well!

Using the daily pages in my #hobonichicousin as an art journal this year.

Some days its pages of words describing my thoughts and feels of the day.

Some days it’s just art and stickers and lettering quotes as a way to express what I’m thinking and feeling.

I just recently started using a touch of watercolor to the book to see how the paper handles it, and I think it works fine. I like the crinkles and the wrinkles and the shadows on the other side. It’s getting used and worn in and I love it!
