A master bedroom straight out of a Hogwarts movie scene!

The Unicorn in Captivity tapestry has always been one of my favorites (aside from the Gryffindor common room tapestry of course), and after seeing it I was determined to find it as a wallpaper. It took AGES to find one that looked right and that would also fit my space.

I kept the other walls white for some time, but finally decided to color drench the room recently with Essex Green by Sherwin Williams, but paint matched by @behrpaint. This green is a rich, moody, daydream with black undertones and I am HERE FOR IT. Whoever said that painting rooms dark makes the room smaller is wrong because it opened the space up significantly.

Of course I had to add other Harry Potter touches, such as the Hedwig lamp, the Time Turner Clock, and Harry Potter bedding from @potterybarnteen. I did a DIY frame for my TV, and I added one of my favorite photos of myself (probably conceited but my husband approved).

A Harry Potter fan must! A Self-Dusting Picture Frame, like something you’d see at the Burrow!!

DIY Tools:
Patience
A drink (according to my husband)
A Frame (mine is an 11x14 from Hobby Lobby)
A photo stand (mine is from Michael’s)
A Reciprocating Linear Actuator (mine is from Amazon)
A photo (mine is from @upcycled_vintage_art)
A feather duster with a wooden handle (mine is from Walmart)

Key points: you need to mount the actuator to the back of the picture frame. The arm has rotational movement, so it will need to be kept off the back of the frame and the wall (this is not a wall mountable frame! Think about putting it on a table).
The actuator is heavy and will need support to stay upright when moving- I used a photo stand with wide back support.
The actuator makes noise! It’s not a silent mechanism, but it can also be ignored.
The duster needs to be attached to the arm of the actuator just above the top of the frame to give the dusting illusion. This is where the wooden handle is important, so you can drill a stabilizer (such as a bolt) in to it to keep it upright while it moves.
You will need a plug! This particular actuator is not battery ran, so a plug is required to function once assembled.

I definitely snagged this pixie inspiration from @clevergirlpotter! My pesky little pixies usually live in my office, but for Christmas they got a gold glow up and a new home. I wanted it to seem like they were causing their usual mayhem, and I think it turned out quite nice!

All I did was spray paint them black (to totally get rid of the blue color) and then gold, and I used craft wire to hold them in place among the book pages. Easy peasy!

Creating a home I feel comfortable in, one room at a time.

Millennial grey? No thanks. “What about future buyers?” Not my concern right now. I’m decorating for ME.

The @minalimadesign Black Family Tapestry wallpaper has been a wishlist item of mine for YEARS. Originally I was just going to stick it in my laundry room, keep it tucked away, do something discreet… but what’s the point in that? It’s the main focal point in my living room, and stretches down a 32 foot wall all the way to my front door. I have zero regrets.

My accent decor is simple, the Fawkes planter and Prophecy Orb light from @potterybarnteen, some gold frames with whimsical photos, and of course, you can’t have a magical home without the magic. My self dusting photo was inspired by @brendaanguiano_official and let me TELL YOU. My husband had quite the time figuring out how she did it, but he got it and I’m obsessed.

And naturally, some spine candles, my custom wand from @bristleconewandshop, and there’s a bit more I didn’t feature, but you get the idea.

Does anyone remember when the movies started coming out on DVD and there were the product pamphlets inside the cases of the replicas you could buy? I always wanted these earrings after Goblet of Fire came out, but my ears weren’t pierced. @profusion dropped another Harry Potter collaboration and I love it! Just in time for the holidays, these pieces are packaged perfectly to either gift someone, use as a stocking stuffer, or of course, gift yourself!

💋 I grabbed the Gryffindor and Slytherin Lip Duo sets, which are a lovely, hydrating, high shine gloss, that are infused with Jojoba oil. The Gryffindor set is a soft pink, and the Slytherin set almost goes on clear, but has a perfect sparkle.

⏳ I also grabbed the Holiday Lumos Illuminating Setting Spray, which is a hydrating mist that locks everything into place while offering an all day glow with light reflecting particles. This has the prettiest shimmer!

🌈 And last, I chose the Holiday Hogwarts Shade Palette, which has 16 different eye shadows. The box also features a fun pop up Hogwarts castle that lights up! I’ve been eyeing the Herbology color for my make up for Cursed Child. I don’t normally do color, but the deep green seems fitting!
