I’d always recommend sizing down by at least one size in their jackets.
Wearing xs in all these and I’d go for XXS which is good for 6/8.

The jersey jacket was a best seller last year I bought for lots of clients.

Generally speaking I’d choose shorter styles for wearing with wider legged silhouettes and longer styles for a slimmer bottom. This can be particularly important when you’re shorter but less of an issue if you’re taller!

V neckline - good for large shoulders.
Sleeve detail to create a structured shoulder and balance out curvier hips
Gauging over tummy to provide camouflage
Elastic at back for comfort and fit
Waist band in perfect position if Apple/rectangular shaped snd if you have a short waist but also good for raising the line of a long torso.
Soft a line skirt to skim over curvier hips.

AD The carrot jean @marksandspencer is another excellent alternative to the barrel. More voluminous than the mom but less so than the barrel. Another tried and tested style that lots of my clients have and love.
