Summer workwear options

These wide leg, high waist culottes are a great option.

Good if you’re curvier through thr bottom half to balance out thr hip/thigh.

Also nice if you are straighter to create some dimension and soften the lines of your silhouette.

High waist so great if you have a long torso.

Come in multiple colours including this season’s buttermilk.

Wearing XS. These would be a cropped length on someone taller! But I would poss need to shorten.

The broderie shirt is also lovely. Great for work and also with jeans 👖

Summer Trousers

What I took to Palma for a few days away.

🏖️Wore one pair of sandals and packed the other - no other shoes

This is a brilliant dress for the summer ahead. Dress up or down

It works for lots of shapes - curvy bodies can highlight the waist by cinching in with the belt. The soft a line skirt will also skim your contours if you are heavier through thr bottom/ pear shaped.

Open shirt neckline good for broad shoulders/larger busts too. Skirt silhouette balances you out on the bottom half too.

Also works on apples and straighter shapes too.

The belt is also very nice and you can wear on other summer styles!

Highly recommend.

I’ve tried on a lot of shorts for you and this another nice one from Mango. They call them straight leg but they fit similarly to the others I’ve tried in terms of the leg opening.

34 is too big on me but I do often wear a 32/XXS in Mango.

If it’s bigger round the waist you can wear lower on the body which helps those of you with a short torso as these are classed as a high rise but a looser fit means they don’t sit high

8 ways to style a carrot leg jean

A slimmer leg shape than the barrel, these are a much easier wear than the barrel trend but give a similar look.

One that didn’t make the reel but thought I’d share - the slim crop. It’s a good option if you find M&S short leg length too long but is pretty neat so I’d size up! Also not great in the white as it’s very see through but the other washes would be better.

Style or fashion - which camp do you sit in?

Do you buy into trends just because it’s a trend, or do you consider your own personal style first and foremost?

If you don’t know your style and you flit from trend to trend then that can make for a confused wardrobe that doesn’t necessarily equate to wearable outfits and that doesn’t necessarily represent who you are.

So when you hit the shops ask yourself these questions to ensure what you buy does work for you on all levels:

🛍️ Does it fit my style?

🛍️ Does it work for my shape/proportions etc?

🛍️ Does it work for my lifestyle?

🛍️ Can I wear it in lots of different ways and across different seasons?

🛍️ Does it make me happy/do I love it?

The evolution of an outfit…

How do you get from basic to styled?

These are the simple steps I go through in nearly every outfit I put on and this formula works irrespective of whether you are creating a smart, casual or smart casual look.

Not every step will always be necessary and what the individual pieces are will obviously change but if you’re feeling like your looks are basic and you want to up your style game then this may help. One to save 📌

1. Tuck
2. Add a belt
3. Add jewellery
4. Layer
5. Roll/ruche sleeves
6. Footwear that compliments the outfit
7. A bag that also compliments the outfit

A simple styling mistake is not considering the outfit as a whole …

Often this means getting the style or colour balance of your accessories wrong so that instead of complimenting your outfit, they ruin it.

So make sure this summer you have the right accessories to finish off your looks and enhance them.

Straw/raffia, tan, taupe/cream, metallics are all easy to wear, versatile options that can work with all your outfits.

That’s not to say that black is a no - because it absolutely can work providing you keep the colour balance of the outfit in mind. A random black bag on a very light outfit will look out of place.

Matching isn’t a must either but if accessories are similar tones it can create a cohesive put together look.

The petite dressing tips I use every day as someone who is 5ft 2… but I also use these many of these with my clients irrespective of stature

One to save and share 📌📌📌

🌸 Show off your wrists. Also makes your legs look longer - I’ve done reels on this previously if you don’t believe me!

🌸 If not wearing a full length trousers then show off those ankles. Wrists and ankles are the neatest part of you so it works well to have them on display.

🌸 Footwear - colour match to your trousers/tights/skin to avoid breaking up your silhouette. I also wear a flatform trainer for some extra inches!

🌸 Colour - the goal is not to break up your frame into lots of different blocks rather use colour strategically to lengthen. Wearing head to toe or dressing tonally is ideal for this. Or you can create a column of colour with a different colour jacket/coat

🌸 volume - wearing lots of volume can swamp you if you’re petite so be careful about how and wear you place it. I try to stick to keeping it one area only but do still play around with proportions and experiment to create different looks

🌸 Think vertical - vertical stripes/details/v necklines/buttons/jackets work open etc. as this will lengthen.

As ever these are guidelines and the main goal is to wear what you love and makes you feel good.
