Bar tribute to my best friend and the best bar owner of 1971, my dad.

I wanted to give the antique bottles my dad saved from his original bar in the 60’s a proper home, so I made this eclectic bar.

The mirror tiles and gold pipe shelves say party on top and tuxedo on the bottom. I had half inch glass shelves made to support all of the items on display.

This project challenged my skills in a couple areas; first the spray paint wasn’t adhering well to the pipe and then the mirror tiles are so sticky that it made placement on the wall very difficult to maneuver because of the small mirrors inset within the mosaic that are very fragile.

All in all, I am happy with the look and can think of a ton of ways to replicate this process just by using different tiles, wood shelves, or another sideboard.

It’s the little luxuries for me 🧼

It’s complete sorcery over here for less than $75 between my touch-less soap dispenser and my self-installed bottle washer.

Flame-style European lightbulbs add an extra bit of intrigue to the hacienda kitchen.

I may have never known the beauty of the original if I had caught that one was broken beforehand.

So replacing one bulb was a journey 😅 of choosing the right color light and the right style of light to get the desired effect.

First I chose 2700k 4 watt clear LED bulbs. Too bright and altogether too white.

Then I chose 2200k 4 watt amber LED bulbs. Also too bright, but the right color.

But the winner is a 2300k 40 watt amber incandescent bulb. Something about incandescent lights can’t be replaced with some LED’s.

A delicate fire light bulb might be what you need to set a simple or already special light fixture apart in your home.

Prefabricated vanities have a spectrum, evidenced by the vanity at the beginning and the one at the end.

There are few stock vanities that you can find walking through the aisles of home stores that will match the criteria of what you need in your particular bathroom.

I poured over vanities, their sizes, countertop selections, sink shapes, holes for faucets, and purchased this vanity through Wayfair for less than $2,000.

I’ve ordered $15,000 vanities for clients before, so there are endless custom treatments that you can do with the money, but that was not my budget for this bathroom.

Proportion is the biggest challenge I see people having with all things in their home, and the proportion of the previous vanity was completely wrong for the wall and the space. Now this 84” vanity fits nicely on the wall with no gaps and plenty of space for storage.

Plus, with soft close drawers and snap on door hinges, it’s a cinch to put together and not worry about fabricating slabs, sinks, and wondering how it will all look with your cabinet.

To elevate the style even more, replace the hardware that comes with it to something more personal that matches your faucet selection.

This ventless all-in-one washer and dryer is the answer to my closet/laundry room needs.

This model doesn’t require a vent, and I linked the water and drain in the wall to the side, which conveniently backs up to my water closet.

That means no crazy pulls for utilities to come right to the unit, and with long enough extension connection hoses, you could put a unit like this up to five feet away from the source. Obviously, consult a licensed plumber when looking to add this - and get a couple bids!

The best thing of all, there was no breaking into exterior walls or the roof to add a vent.

I researched my heart out between stackable and all-in-ones and decided I didn’t need to bother with switching the loads if I didn’t have to.

I’ll admit I splurge more than I save in the lighting department. But great lighting is key to creating ambiance in your home.

These chandeliers were the first layer of lighting I added to the tree branch living room in the hacienda, and I love how they look high-end without costing thousands of dollars.

So here’s my secret… 💡

Outside of the style of the light, the most important component is held within the light bulbs you choose.

Here’s a little guide for what I put in my home:

1. Lumens. This is your brightness level. We can get into the weeds here about which rooms requires which amount of lumen. But the hack that doesn’t require you to do math is just to put your lights on a smart dimmer switch. That way, you can adjust the brightness level for each space. (I put the ones I used in my Amazon storefront)

2. Color Temperature (Kelvin = Warm vs. Cool Light)
I used 4000k light throughout my home because it is the most neutral white light, not yellow like warm white and not blue like daylight.

3. CRI (Color Rendering Index = How Colors Look Under Light)
This is the secret for art galleries and museums alike so that the color you see is true to life. It’s a scale from 0 to 100, with 100 being the most accurate. The lights you see here are 80, and you’ll want 80 or above so the light looks most like natural sunlight.

Save this for later when you need a quick reference guide on which lightbulbs to look for.
