I’m in my 50s now, and here’s something wild: I look better than I did in my 30s and 40s.

For years I didn’t even realize how much I’d let myself fade into the background. Skipping the mirror instead of looking in it. Putting everyone else’s needs before my own, every single day.

Turning it around wasn’t one big overhaul. It was small, daily acts of choosing myself — the right fit over the “safe” size, sun rays instead of something to erase, showing up as me instead of hiding.

Watching Jack out here at SMU — Boulevard, his people around him, that spark in his eyes — it hit me in a way I wasn't ready for. This is the kid who used to fall asleep on my chest, and now he's building a whole life a flight away from home, and it's his.

Growing up is supposed to happen. Growing out of the house is supposed to happen. Nobody tells you it can feel like pride and grief holding hands at the same time.

So tonight I'll cheer loud at game, hug him a little too long, and fly home missing him already — because that's what loving them well looks like. Go get it, Jack. Mom's so proud. 🐴❤️
