what I learned in therapy this week:
you can get addicted to a down, avoidant mood and mask it as taking a break. you know how when you’re anxious and so overwhelmed that you just decide to stay in bed and avoid everything so that you can just “rest” or avoid it until another day? been there.. plenty.

-your comfort zone’s to do list of when you’re feeling down may be cancel plans, ignore calls/texts, listen to and watch sad stuff, throw out the real to do list, binge eat, etc. essentially, hide away from the world.

-you can become addicted to this cycle and keep yourself stuck… and, eventually, this becomes the normal reaction. now you’re locked into choosing these things first.

-everyone’s solution is different. but a few things you could do:

🎧 switch the sad ish up lol. turn off the low piano ballads and throw on something upbeat or funny. this can really shift your emotional state. trust me… I’m queen of grabbing a dramatic song to feel my emotions. don’t do it lol

🫧 move your body. this doesn’t even have to be the gym. you can bounce and dance around your house, play fetch with your pets, walk the dog. anything counts.

🪄reach out to people you trust. find that social connection in your inner circle. because isolating can keep the dark mood going.
🛍️ find something out situations that induce a sense of awe. simply going outside can do this. being in nature, a botanical garden…. target lol.

*resting for your mental health is very important and necessary. but not when it’s used as a self excuse to avoid something. so, take a day or two off if you need to and hop back into your life ♥️
