I share a lot of workout videos, and I’m often asked, “Okay, but what do you eat?” 

Fair question — because what we eat matters just as much as (and sometimes more than) how often we work out.

I’m going to start sharing more of what that actually looks like for me day to day. One thing I always come back to: cutting back on refined sugar. It’s one of the simplest shifts that supports fat loss, energy, and lowers inflammation.

This is one of the ways I do it: I used to crave something sweet after meals or mid-afternoon — and more often than not, it was chocolate. 🍫 Now I reach for dates instead.

Organic, pitted Deglet Nour dates from @sunnyfruitofficial , paired with a little organic ghee or a sliver of Manchego… and it genuinely hits the spot. Sweet, satisfying, and indulgent enough that it doesn’t feel like a downgrade or a “better-for-you compromise.”

Here’s my simple no list vs yes list when it comes to protein bars:

🚫 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗜 𝗮𝘃𝗼𝗶𝗱 𝗶𝗻 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘁𝗲𝗶𝗻 𝗯𝗮𝗿𝘀
• Added sugars disguised as syrups
• Artificial sweeteners (especially sucralose)
• Seed oils high on the ingredient list
• Long, hard-to-pronounce ingredient lists
• Protein blends padded with fillers
• “Low calorie” bars that don’t actually keep you full

✅ 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗜 𝗹𝗼𝗼𝗸 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗶𝗻𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗮𝗱
• Short, recognizable ingredient lists
• Protein as the first ingredient
• Naturally sweetened or lightly sweetened
• Healthy fats for satiety
• No artificial flavors or colors
• A bar that actually keeps me full between meals

This is one of those small swaps that adds up over time — especially if you rely on protein bars for busy days, workouts, or travel.

We spent most of the day at my daughter’s volleyball tournament — the kind that runs five hours and leaves you surviving on whatever the concession stand has. And let’s be honest… healthy options are basically nonexistent. Water and black coffee are usually the only safe bets.

That’s why I’ve learned to always carry beef sticks. They’re savory, satisfying, easy to toss in a bag, and a solid source of protein when you need something that actually holds you over. A couple of them and I’m good — no energy crash, no desperation snacking.

I’m sharing the clean beef sticks we keep on hand, plus a few non-negotiables I always check for when shopping:

✕ Seed oils
✕ Citric acid
✕ Nitrates or nitrites
✕ Preservatives
✕ Added sugars (artificial or refined)

✔ Grass-fed beef
✔ All-natural ingredients

These have become one of my favorite real-life health hacks — especially for long tournament days, travel, or busy schedules.

My golden rules for packaged snacks, protein bars, and protein — what I NEVER want to see on the ingredient list:

1. No seed oils
2. No food dyes
3. No “natural flavors” (A vague, lab-derived catch-all)
4. No maltodextrin
5. No citric acid (Often mold-fermented from corn, not citrus)
6. No gums or thickeners
7. No added sugars from artificial or highly processed sources
8. No artificial sweeteners
9. No yeast extract or hidden flavor enhancers
10. No chemical preservatives (BHA, BHT, TBHQ)

Not about perfection — just ingredients that make sense and support how I want to feel.
