The modern Advent wreath originated in northern Germany in the 1800s. Lutheran pastor, Johann Hinrich Wichern, made the first one in 1839 for poor children in a mission home in Hamburg so they could see how many days were left until Christmas. He used a big wooden ring with many candles, small ones for weekdays and big ones for Sundays. Over time it simplified into the four-candle wreath, like the one I made. christmaswreath Christmas germanchristmas GermanChristmasTraditions christmasdecor christmasdecorations christmas2025 LTKHome LTKHoliday LTKSeasonal
