Air Dry vs Diffusing - Which do you prefer? ✨

I’m often asked why I choose to diffuse and my answer is pretty easy. I diffuse because it gives me my best desired results.

A few call outs:

➰ The diffuser helps lift the hair and give it more bounce and volume
➰ Air drying gives me a looser wave pattern as the water weighs down my hair in the drying process
➰ Diffusing half my head only took 10 minutes (usually ~20 mins for my entire head)
➰ Air drying the other half took 10x as long
➰ Since I was trying to keep each half separated, I couldn’t flip my hair upside down to dry, which gave me a flatter root. For more volume, dry side to side and upside down.

Stylers aren't meant to create the end result, they're meant to hold the end result.

The products I use help enhance definition, tame frizz, and hold my wavy clumps together.

Skipping these stylers leaves my hair puffy, frizzy and looking very dry. As said above, these products aren't creating my waves.
These products are helping hold them in place.

No amount of products or scrunching will force naturally straight hair to be wavy or curly. The more you know 🌈

TIP: wait until your hair is 100% dry to reduce unwanted frizz and maintain definition.

Using an oil helps reduce friction between your hands and your hair. This helps reduce the likelihood of unwanted frizz while the oil help soften the cast.

For reference, I use 2-3 drops of bounce curl light oil (not listed in LTK, but can be found on their website. Use code WAVYCURLY for $$ off). It’s very light so it doesn’t weight down my hair and by only needing a couple drops, the bottle lasts forever!

I’ve also tagged several similar oils and a cream that I’ve loved and work similarly. Remember - A LITTLE GOES A LONG WAY!

Dry brush refresh using ONLY curl cream 💫

I saw on Bounce Curl’s website that you can use this cream to refresh dry hair—and my mind was blown 🤯 Why didn’t I think of this sooner? I’ve only been using this cream for 6 YEARS!!

Adding water on refresh day usually helps with definition, but it also gives me unwanted frizz. My go-to is typically a mousse or foam on dry hair, but I wanted to see if I could get the same soft, defined finish without the extra stickiness.

So I tried refreshing with just curl cream and I have to say, I’m impressed! My hair feels soft and moisturized without the frizz or crunch.

Sometimes the smallest details make the biggest change…

I’ve been shaking and scrunching for years, however, it never occurred to me to dial in on this step as I hardly noticed I did it. However, shaking the curls makes such a difference in helping looser curl patterns find a more uniform shape.

This spray gel really surprised me for this wavy curly hair washday routine.

This is the first spray gel I’ve ever tried and, after using it a couple times before, I’ve learned that it’s best applied to my hair damp. It’s lightweight and easy to spread. I also got a slight cast at the end, however, I think using a little more or a little less would change how hard that cast was.

For the cream, I’m in love with the scent and how much slip it has. It was very easy to distribute throughout my hair and a little we a long way for my finer strands.

Storm Shelter Tour

This storm shelter takes up a ton of space in our garage, so making it fully functional year-round was a must.

Gel + foam wavy curly hair routine.

These are two of my favorite stylers that never let me down 💛

Tip: detangle your hair with a detangling brush, NOT the bounce curl edgelift styling brush. This brush was not designed to detangle, but rather section, smooth and clump the hair (and it does a great job at it!)

Humidity Hack⬇️

When hair is 100% dry: use a pump of foam or mousse, emulsified in your hands, then glaze and scrunch to break the crunchy cast in your hair. This also adds a nice layer of protection from the humidity.

Pro tip: use the warmth of the diffuser to help soften the cast when scrunching. This is also helpful as you can pause to hit any hidden damp spots with air before continuing to scrunch.

My go-to refresh routine that I’ve been doing for YEARS!

And the finishing touch with the living proof texture spray *chefs kiss* - this also happens to be my absolute favorite smelling product.

The leave-in I use here is from Bounce Curl, however, I’ve tagged some great, affordable options below.

Auto-cycle is an option on the Laifen to rotate between all the temp settings. This allows quick bursts of hot, warm and cool air to ensure the hair doesn’t overheat.

Also - the color rings on the back of the dryer make it easy to see which temp setting I’m on so that I don’t need to keep bringing the diffuser down to look at it. I can easily see the reflection in the mirror or against my hand. 10/10 recommend!

Tips for using the Bounce Curl brush:

➰ For looser textures similar to mine, make sure your hair is wet, not soaking. Soaking hair will just allow all the clumps to go back together.

➰ Brush AFTER applying your stylers. This will allow for more even product distribution.

➰ Lift hair up and away from the scalp for added volume.

➰ This is NOT a detangling brush. Use only as a styling brush to get the most gorgeous curl clumps💛

How to Wash & Style Curly/Wavy Hair Upside Down (Without Wonky Curls!)

Tip #1: Rotate your head from side to side while washing and styling. This helps lift your roots and prevents flat or “wonky” sections in the back.

Tip #2: Shake your hair before scrunching. This encourages your curls/waves to form in their natural direction, reducing frizz and uneven curl clumps.

Perfect for anyone with wavy hair, curly hair, or learning the upside-down wash routine.

How I make my wavy curls last for DAYSSSS ✨

This has been my go-to sleep routine for months and is easily the biggest game changer for my hair this year.

Improper sleep protection will always kill the waves 😭

Tip: for looser textures, make sure your hair is wet but NOT soaking when styling with this brush. If it's too wet, the clumps will stick together and not remain separated. This separation is what creates the volume

For bigger clumps, check out the Bounce Curl DEFINE EdgeLift brush tagged below under “similar” products. The side grooves are further apart on the Define brush.

I’ve also tagged the bounce curl cream as an alternative to the leave-in I show here. You’ll see that I most often use the cream over the leave-in, but never both as it would be too heavy for my hair type.

*please note the importance of using an alcohol-free hairspray on wet or damp hair. Using something WITH alcohol can dry out and damage the hair.

Does the viral bounce curl brush actually work on looser curl patterns?

For me - yes! My mostly 2c hair loves this brush. I’ve found the trick is to apply product to wet hair (NOT soaking) and then brush to distribute the product, smooth wet frizz and form curl clumps. This gives me the BEST definition with minimal frizz.
