These are the pieces I’d invest in if I were starting my wardrobe from scratch.

That said, I don’t recommend tossing everything in your closet unless you’re absolutely sure you don’t love any of it. Instead, let’s build on what you already have.

Start with an intentional closet clean-out. Take a look at each piece and ask yourself:
1️⃣ Would I buy this again?
2️⃣ Have I worn it in the last year?
3️⃣ Do I feel confident wearing it?
4️⃣ Can I style it multiple ways with what’s already in my closet?
5️⃣ Does it still fit well?
6️⃣ Is it still in good condition?

This process will help you declutter your closet and give you a clearer understanding of the wardrobe you actually want.

Once your closet is in order, you’ll be able to identify which staple pieces are missing and start filling in the gaps.

Here's how you're going to clear out that 80% 🗑👇🏼

First, grab three boxes or bags and label them: Cash, Stash, and Trash.

Bring them into your closet and start sorting through your clothes.

As you look at each item, ask yourself these six questions:

1️⃣ Would I buy this again?
2️⃣ Have I worn it in the last year?
3️⃣ Do I feel confident wearing it?
4️⃣ Can I style it in multiple ways with what I already own?
5️⃣ Does it still fit well?
6️⃣ Is it still in good condition?

If you answer “no” to two or more questions, place the item in one of your boxes:

☑ Cash — items you can sell or donate
☑ Trash — items too worn or damaged to sell or donate
☑ Stash — items you’re unsure about but not ready to part with

Be sure to put the Stash box somewhere out of sight—like a different room or closet. If you don’t use anything from it before your next cleanout, it’ll be easier to let those pieces go. And if you do, they earn their place back in your wardrobe.

Give every item in your closet a score of 1 or 2 points based on how much it adds to an outfit.

One-point pieces are your basics — think solid colors, simple shapes, and neutral tones. These form the foundation of your outfits.

Two-point pieces are your statement-makers — patterns, interesting textures, bold colors, or unique silhouettes that add personality and depth.

Your goal is to combine pieces until your outfit adds up to at least 7 points.
