💄 Easy peasy new make-up routine. The syrum I’ve been using since running into some skin trouble during pregnancy and the @vapour beauty blush stick has been a favorite for a few years as well - but the SPF CC cream, @glossier concealer, and @twofaced matte powder are newbies. Takes me about 2-3 minutes for the routine then of course my best @stila eyebrow pen and a bit of drugstore mascara and I’m as ready as I need to be for any occasion these days

🤷🏻‍♀️ As it turns out apparently a bunch of you actually liked the scarf mask suggestion so despite my “style” feeling, IMO, non-existent maybe that’s actually true for a lot of you too? Maybe you really just wanna know about flattering, comfy, quality basics?
🧍🏻‍♀️ What I’m saying is I essentially have a uniform, a handful of each of my favorite staple items and I just grab one of each in the morning: yoga pants, tank top, long sleeve, socks, sweatshirt, slide on sneakers, scarf/scarf mask, and an easy little mom bag.

❤️ If you’re struggling w/ potty training or you’re terrified of it, please don’t read this post & let it make you feel anxious or defeated. We have had some struggles & it’s still a long road ahead, & I often don’t like to post about really great things for fear it might upset someone because I know how it feels when we compare ourselves. But I also want to share our experience & some items that have become staples in our post diaper life.
🚽 First off I ordered @jamies book, read it, then we started about a week later. She says anyone who claims it was easy to potty train either has foggy memories OR caught their kid in the 2 week sweet spot of their life when they were exactly ready to do it. And honestly I sort of think we caught that period. I wasn’t ready to start the process at all, but Ford was starting to talk about it a lot, knowing when he was about to go, asking to be changed even after put to bed. It was unavoidable.
🗓 Next we picked a day and started. I was hesitant on the naked at home for a few days method because we rarely spend more than 2 consecutive hrs at home - we are very much living in the go over here. I waited until my husband was out of town for a week so we could have full reign of the condo without stepping on each others toes.
🙌🏻 By day 3 we were back in clothes & out for mini outings. We have had a couple of small incidents that made me feel like we needed to spend more time at home on a few occasions but for the most part we have just truly transitioned to using the travel potty on the go (he also mostly likes the travel potty at home too!) and pull ups for nap/night.
🙌🏻 Just over 2 weeks in and I’m so proud of him. And I’m proud of me for just doing it. It’s exhausting yes, but we are getting in a groove & I’m starting to see some light at the end of the training tunnel.
🛍 Today I’m linking the travel potty & disposable bags we use plus the simple black drawstring backpack we use as the “potty bag”. In it I keep wipes in a linked reusable pouch, a small towel & a change of clothes. Also linking the mini purse I’ve switched to & our full diaper bag!

📷 Yes this a photo of our microwave with a sticky note reminding me NOT TO USE IT.
💥 A week ago I started it up and a spark appeared, I quickly stopped it and we waited a week for someone to check it out. He came Friday & said it’ll be 3-5 days for the parts to fix it.
🤯 Let me just be really honest: I had NO IDEA how much I relied on this dang thing! Especially for Ford... hearing up leftovers, heating up frozen foods, making oatmeal I MEAN EVERYTHING.
Sometimes it takes not having something to realize it’s value and damn I won’t take the microwave for granted again 😭

🚗 The past couple of months the truck/car obsession has really set in.
🚛 Every dump truck is a “pee yew” aka garbage truck
🌀 Cement mixers are known as “round and round and”
🚜 Any forklift/crane/bulldozer/excavator is simply “UP!!”
⛽️ And oddly we do actually know “tanker truck” for an oil tank
🚒 Cars are “vroom vroom” as well as motorcycles but those also get the revving hand gesture. Police cars & firetrucks get an amazingly life like siren impression. EVERY. SINGLE. TIME
❤️ It’s hilarious & adorable & sometimes exhausting to talk constantly about these things, but fun nonetheless.

Ford is finally big enough for swimmies and although we don’t use them in class at @goldfishswimschool I plan to buy some for any pool/lake/beach time we log this summer! #sponsored
One thing I’ve learned from our time at Goldfish is how important swim safety is so despite the swimmies I’ll still be right there with him anytime he is near water, but I love that it can help to begin giving him some independence and confidence in the pool.

👜 Yesterday in class I saw a momma with a super cute mini sling backpack that was exactly what I’ve been looking for (in part for today’s bday party seeing @disneyonice at @theunitedcenter ) and when I asked her she said she had just gotten it at @target

💫 HIT SAVE FOR TODDLER TRAVEL TIPS 💫
✈️ Someone told me they loved my travel w/babies blog post & asked if I had an updated version as Ford’s gotten older. The short andwer is no, but I’m sharing what I can right here!
1️⃣ SNACKS & FOOD: load up on it, don’t hold back, it’s a travel day just give up on expectations of eating 3 square meals. Snacks & mini meals not only keep Ford entertained but they ensure he never gets hangry. Our go to’s: yogurt, fruit, PB&J sandwiches, @annieshomegrown cheddar bunnies, @plumorganics pouches & oat bars, @sproutfoods crispy chews, plus good old fashioned puffs
2️⃣ Download their favorite shows or music. Ford only watches Sesame Street & only likes the music so the episodes I’ve downloaded don’t really help HOWEVER when we get good WiFi on @southwestair I’m able to play his favorite @youtube music compilation videos & that helps (PS he won’t wear headphones so I just play it quietly)
3️⃣ If you can afford it, get them their own seat. Ford is so mobile now he is up & down the whole flight & it’s worth it for both of us to have the extra space
4️⃣ Ideally I travel with a carry-on @away bag that rolls easily, then perched atop that a small @tumitravel duffel that I can keep under the seat with all of our in flight essentials. On my back I wear our diaper bag & then push Ford in the @babyzenstrollers yo-yo stroller. This time I didn’t have the roller bag & it made it HARD to have to carry the duffel & Ford & the diaper bag & the stroller down the jetway.
5️⃣ Bring ziplocks or some kind of “trash bag” - there will be trash
6️⃣ Still a BIG fan of the @munchkininc disposable placemats for the tray table (after wiping as much down as I can with @clorox to go wipes)
7️⃣ Type out your “plan” the day before in terms of when you ideally but also realistically want your kiddo to nap/eat. It helps me as the day progresses to figure out what I should do next: feed him, nap him, tire him out, give him milk etc. Then update as you can along the way so you know where you’re at when you reach your destination.
8️⃣ If you’re a germaphobe like me do your best to make things feel “clean” and then just let it go.

🙋🏻‍♀️ SAHM friends (especially those in freezing cold winter spots like me), are you also surviving on letting your little ones watch @sesamestreet or their favorite shows when you both get restless indoors??
🤦🏻‍♀️ It makes me feel guilty but also moments like this where Ford seems entranced are V short lived and mostly he just likes hearing the songs in the background while we play or do household things (and hey he’s learning things like how to stomp his feet in “if you’re happy and you know it” 🤷🏻‍♀️😂).
👩‍👦 Anyways, after the holidays I’m hoping our weekly classes at @goldfishswimschool & @bigcityreaders along with some play groups we are planning to set up will be a big help.

📚 I’m currently perusing Cribsheet - a parenting book from the viewpoint of using statistics & data & a ultimately a big pinch of good old personal preference to make your parenting decisions. The author uses the term “mommy wars” to reference hot button topics where moms are often in one camp or the other like breastfeeding, vaccinating, sleep training etc
🧸 Anyways, I’m V aware of the fact that many moms are anti plastic/light up/musical toys and while a part of me wishes we had all perfectly matching wooden toys, that’s not the case and at this point never will be. We are team #hodgepodge over here - some wood, some plastic, some great for development, some purely fun, many not even designed to be toys but rather discarded household items

🛁 Since pretty early on, our nightly bath routine has been Fords favorite part of the day (minus a couple of times on vacation and once with a babysitter - then it was basically his least favorite part of the day 😫)
🦠 That said for a long time we didn’t have tub toys cause I thought they were gross and full of mold...till I found these awesome @skiphop cups! Ford loves cups in general so these were a no brained for us.

Last night I made paella - inspired by a seafood broth I saw at @wabashseafoodco last week.
It was admittedly easy and because I wasn’t sure how it would turn out I didn’t throw tons of seafood in (I mean in case it was a “quick order a pizza” kind of thing 😂)
But it was delish and honestly simple:
1️⃣ Brown the protein - in this case chicken chorizo & white fish (which I marinated in lemon and @spicemode Spanish seasoning ahead of time). Then set aside.
2️⃣ Brown 1 1/4 cups of Spanish rice in the same pan (to this I also added 1 clove minced garlic) for 2 minutes
3️⃣ Deglaze with 1/2 cup white wine, then add the full box of Aneto Paella Broth. Bring to a boil and let it go for 10 min
4️⃣ Add back in the chorizo/fish & 1/3 cup frozen peas. Simmer for anoryber 10 min (I ended up adding another 1/2 cup of water as it was thickening)
5️⃣ Turn the heat down and let it go for another 5 min. Serve with a BIG squeeze of lemon & side salad!
