When I was diagnosed last year I was probably in the best shape of my life. This was likely one of the reasons when I had wierd symptoms I paid attention. Had I not been in as good of shape I probably would have just ignored them and gone on with my day. The first symptom was GI issues that I chalked up to having just been on a series of antibiotics. This was likely true. But then I had very tiny very easy to miss blood clots in my urine. They looked like little beads. I thought possibly I had a UTI? I immediately went to the urgent care where they tested and cultured my urine. A few days later and no signs of a UTI - my body was still whispering that something wasn’t right. It was at this point I went to the ER. Thankfully the doctor was wise enough to order a CT scan with contrast suspecting due to the l tiniest bit of blood I noticed that possibly I had a kidney stone. She was on the fence on whether she should to run it. Had she not I’d of continued living my life with a time bomb 💣 inside of me. I am so grateful for her courage and bravery to order a test that likely seemed unnecessary due to limited symptoms. That one test and me listening to my body saved my life. My urologist said I likely had no symptoms and that the tumor had probably been growing a long time unnoticed. He said it was just “bad luck”. But I consider myself incredibly “lucky” with how it all played out in the most unlikely series of events. If something feels off for YOU - advocate for yourself.
