The #1 mistake men make in family photos?
Showing up in jeans and sneakers 😬

I'm sharing the exact secrets I tell my photography clients to show up looking stylish and confident. These are my style tips and swaps that will elevate your family photos and create family photos you LOVE this fall.

➞ Swap denim for colored pants, chinos or corduroy pants

➞ Add style and depth with layers — think a button-down shirt under a sweater or a chocolate brown suede jacket over a textured shirt

➞ Mix in rich textures like suede or ribbed knits. Texture adds so much to the photos and works great when you are going for a monochromatic look or neutrals

➞ Skip the Nikes and opt for loafers, boots or leather sneakers

➞ Stick to timeless fall tones or neutrals: navy, camel, olive, stone, cream, rust

➞ Fit is everything. Slim, clean lines > baggy or boxy.

📩 Comment MEN and I’ll send you the exact outfits and curated items I recommend — or shop them now on my LTK (link in bio).

➞ Share this with a friend that will be panic buying family outfits this fall.

Navy, forest green and camel make such a good fall family photo color palette — especially if you love a more preppy, Ralph Lauren-inspired look. 🍂

For this Amazon style family outfit, dad wears camel and olive, mom wears navy, the kids mix cable knits, plaid, corduroy and classic fall colors, and the accessories keep everything feeling coordinated. I love this palette for outdoor family pictures, fall weekends and Thanksgiving.

The location is the first color palette. Use that color palette and vibe to pick what colors compliment where you are taking photos. As a pro photographer, there is nothing sadder than a well dressed family in the wrong color for a location. If in doubt, plan for neutrals. If in a green park location, stick with neutrals. If at a desert or beach, bring in contrast with dark browns, burgundy or greens.
