The view from our bedroom into the nursery just improved by 973 times- it’s a scientific fact. Last weekend Chris and I installed the @hunterfanco minimus and it’s given Wilder’s room Maximus style! It operates so smoothly and quietly that I no longer feel like our home will take flight when I turn on the fan, and I love the warm glow of the LED light. No more chains hanging from the ceiling as it operates with a remote control, hallelujah! Wilder’s bedroom is pretty small, but the minimus is the perfect fit, and packs in function and style. I’m so glad we finally knocked this off the list- his room finally feels truly complete. What’s a project you need to do to finish a space in your house? What’s holding you back? DIY can be hard work, but more often than not it’s worth it! Take these string light posts Chris and I put up this weekend, for instance. Chris sweated it out, digging deep holes and hauling 50 lb bags of quiktete, and I got cut my a rose thorn. We both had it pretty hard. 😂 In the end though, it took us less than a day to get our patio ready for endless summer nights! I’ve got the full step by step tutorial on the blog now so check it out. If we can do it, you most definitely can, too. 💪🏼

I don't go out to shop on black Friday, and definitely not on Thanksgiving day, but today I was perusing etsy for some gift ideas and ordered this shirt for Sawyer. This morning Sawyer and I took the scenic route to a breakfast date at Dunkin' Donuts and it turned out there was a reason for it. We saw two sweet dogs, a yellow lab and chocolate lab out on a leisurely run without their owners where the speed limit was 50. I pulled over and told Sawyer to wait in the car just in case. The chocolate kept running into the street and had no tag, but the yellow did and we called the owners and the story ended happily. When I got in the car, Sawyer said, "We did a good deed today." He was proud, but I just reminded him that those dogs were loved by someone just like ours are loved by us. And we'd be heartbroken without them.... and I didn't want anyone to lose their dogs! Take the scenic route.... you never know what adventure will come your way. Happy Sunday!

Another Halloween has come and gone, but I think this wolf pillow is here to stay! I'll be putting away the rest of the decorations today and I admit I am a little sad.... I love creepy thrilling books, scary movies, and moody Halloween decor. I always have and I always will. Fun fact: I saw the movie Poltergeist for the first time when I was 5 (don't judge my parents; my mom wasn't home and my dad let it happen because my reaction to it was not fear but laughter.)

When you were a kid were you banished to the "kids table" for Thanksgiving? My brother and I were the oldest of the cousins and I remember being at that table and enjoying the company of my little cousins, but also feeling slightly out of place. Now my own kids are in that same position of being the old cousins! We actually aren't going to see any of the younger ones this Thanksgiving, but I had a little make believe kids Thanksgiving on my porch and created a fun and colorful table using my old fiesta dishes. My good friend Erin @kismet_house has a petite fiddle leaf fig she's named "Figgie Smalls" and I feel like a terrible plant mother because I've had my fig for a while and never named it... maybe I was afraid to get too attached assuming it might end in despair? Emmy and I have had a fantastic girls weekend filled with shopping at #nestfest , pumpkins, ice cream, and visits with friends and family. It's been real, but I'm it sure how a 60 pound child hogs a king sized bed..... I'm ready to head bsck to my own bed tonight so I can go back to being the one stealing the covers. I came into my plant-loving ways later in life, after living in utter fear that I would kill them. Having kept my children alive a solid 10 years (yay me! 👏🏻) I finally felt like I could adopt some plants and have fallen in love with having them all over my home. My apple doesn't fall far, and one of Emmy's requests for her new room was "lots of plants!" so I am now raising a #crazyplantlady and that's A-Ok because she will never fear her nurturing abilities like I did. Or she'll kill them all... time will tell. 🌿For now, I started to get her hooked up with a vintage macrame planter and one that I made myself. Bethca can't tell which one I made 😂...

Sometimes when I start working on a room, I am really not sure how it will work out... so I just trudge on and pray for the best. Sometimes it works out, and sometimes it doesn't but being as stubborn as I am I just pretend I love it... just ask Chris about the time I painted out living room marine blue and he called it the "Under the Sea Room." I played along with loving it for over a year and finally just couldn't take it anymore. Thankfully this time my fears were put to rest when I started working in Emmy's new room, and painted the walls aqua mist by Clark & Kensington from @acehardware. I let Emmy pick the color, and she selected this one out of the entire fan deck, and she knew she wanted it paired with brighter colors in the textiles. I have to hand it to her... it's working for me. Actually, it's more than working for me! I am thinking of just handing over my instagram account and blog to her, because clearly she knows what she's doing. It's still pretty bare as this is just progress, but I am loving it so far! Halloween around here means skull pillows on the sofa, bats on the wall and fireplace, and all the plants stepping one foot closer to death's door as they come inside for the season into what I like to call "plant purgatory." I found something so amazing that it prompted me to take down my nautical gallery wall and restyle my kitchen shelves. I know, I know, I love that gallery wall, too! And to be honest, I am not sure about what I've done so we're just going to let it all sit and marinate over here and hope for something amazing... basically the same plan I use for dinner. But I am happy with what's going on with my shelves... very fall-ish and warm! I've added some vintage art, wood and woven pieces as well as my vintage amber goblets. I recently purchased some gray faux fur pillows for the living room, and then shopped Halloween pillows with the kiddos... Sawyer told me I should get a wolf pillow to go with the fur. We searched and this bad boy popped up! I think he'll be staying around longer than just through Halloween because I am digging him. Last night I showed you the hide rug relocated to the dining room as I was shopping my home for #howyouhome . I am not a red person, but I am loving the color here, and think it will be a nice addition through the winter... until I start to suffocate and need to go back to neutrals anyhow! This week's #howyouhome is all about shooing your own house... so I thought just for fun I would shop my own house and change some things up. I pulled my hide rug out of the living room (and put something else there which I will show ya tomorrow!) Our dining room is dog central, where our 3 dogs hang out most of the day, with me nearby in the kitchen. So for a long time we have lived with no rug... because it's also been accident central. Eep. Buh-bye black walls. It's been real... I've loved your moodiness and coziness for the last three years, but the tides are turning. We are on our way to the national apple festival to do all the 🍎 things, see the antique cars, pet the animals, eat all the 🍏 things, and more! I also need to to stock up on apples because the applesauce I made last Fall is down to two jars and Emmy's been packing it in her lunch every day for school. It's Friday night! Crock pot is on with lemon chicken soup, Chris is on his way with wine and maple beer, and it's gonna be a good weekend.... soccer, apple festival and a dinner at @Pistarros all with the family. I love weekends like this! Today wrapped up the #bloggerstylinhometours hosted by @thewhitebuffalostylingco and I share my fall porch this past Monday. Who else finds solace in the kitchen when life gets a little stressful? I have baked lemon cake, tomato upside down corn cake, made hummus, made buttermilk biscuits, and a kale & tomato frittata, all in the span of about 16 hours..... But on the plus side, it's ben fun to gather around the table with my family, and of course, there's the eating. Tomorrow everyone will be at work and school and I will probably be cooking and eating my way through the kitchen.
