SPRUCE MY SPACE: The Weird Fireplace Nook

Every week I take photos of rooms that YOU submit and mock up how I’d design if it were my space. I think we’re all thinking the same thing when we look at this… What the heck is happening above the fireplace?? I don’t know why builders did this in the 90s where they put these random nooks in walls that nobody wants. Good news! It’s a very easy fix. Keep the fireplace as is, and just add molding and paint in that entire section. It will make such a difference in this room!

Is anyone else tired of looking at their ugly boob light? I feel like every house has at least one. 😵‍💫 Will you join me in making the boob light extinct? 😂 Changing a light fixture can feel really intimidating, but it’s actually super easy and very beginner friendly!

Make sure you always turn off your power first before handling the wires. Unscrew the fixture, and when you can see the wiring, make sure you separate them, unscrew the wire nuts, and make sure that none of the wires touch. Remove any mounting plate that is currently there from the old light and use the screws provided with your new fixture to install the new mounting plate. Lineup your two black wires from the ceiling and your new light and screw a wire not on clockwise. Gently tug on each wire to make sure that you have a tight fit. Do the same thing with the white wires. Some fixtures have a copper wire and some do not. If it does, wire it together with the copper wire coming from the ceiling. If it doesn’t, just take the one coming from the ceiling and wrap it around the green grounding, screw, and tighten. Next screw your light fixture into the mounting plate and BAM 💥 NO MORE BOOB LIGHTS!!

It’s easier than you think, just pull down on the current can light an unhook it, screw in the new light, put it back in and DONE-ZO. Congrats now you’re a badass, too! 💪🏻

SPRUCE MY SPACE: The Asymmetrical Fireplace

Every week I take photos of rooms that YOU submit and mock up how I’d design if it were my space. This one stumped me! The fireplace placement is very strange right on the edge. Most fireplaces in living rooms are just begging for symmetry but I found a way to trick the eye to give us that visual symmetry that makes my brain feel good 😂

It’s seriously so easy to make!! All you need is:
• 1 cup of unsweetened vanilla almond milk
• 1.5 scoops protein powder
• 1 tablespoon of sugar free jello powder

Mix together and freeze overnight. Then put in the ninja cream and hit the lite ice cream button. Open and add a splash of milk and hit respin!
