SPRUCE MY SPACE: The Garage Entryway

Every week I mock up how I’d design rooms you submit! Everyone has a mudroom or entryway they struggle to keep organized, with a few simple changes you can totally transform the space on a budget. The biggest issue with this space is that feels separated and cluttered, right now it feels like there’s two zones by each doorway instead of feeling like one big space. To fix this, I would paint the back wall a dark moody color, this not only grounds the space but also hides dirt and scuff marks that are common in spaces like this. Next, I would add a large area rug to the center of the room, this ties together both doors and also creates a cohesive color palette to work with. Covering the window on the door, cuts out visual noise and makes the space feel like a blank canvas. Adding functional furniture like a hall tree, bench, and furniture dog crate that can double as a drop zone for keys, mail, etc. makes a huge difference in a space like this! Finally, adding practical decor pieces like a mirror, clock, and to-do list ties the whole room together. Making these few simple changes totally transform the space from cluttered to intentional!

SPRUCE MY SPACE: The Empty Bedroom

Every week I mock up how I’d design rooms you submit and this bedroom has so much potential. The biggest issue with this space is that it’s just lacking the character and warmth that makes the space feel inviting. The first thing I’d do is get a bigger headboard and add some artwork above the bed to define the focal point of the room. Then I would ground the space with a large area rug. I think painting the ceiling with a darker color makes the room feel cozy and elevated. Finishing the space with some wooden nightstands, curtains, and earth toned decor ties everything together and makes everything feel inviting and cohesive. With these few simple changes, you can totally transform this room on a budget!

SPRUCE MY SPACE: The Empty Walls

Every week I mock up how I’d design rooms you submit and this living room has so much potential. The biggest issue with this space is that the empty walls are making it feel cold and uninviting. The first thing I’d do is add picture molding or some sort of wall treatment to the back wall, this will give the wall some more visual interest without overwhelming the space. I always recommend adding window trim and curtains to elevate your windows. Next we need to address the weird 90s fireplace… so many people struggle with the weird niches and chunky trim! I would remove/cover the fireplace so you have a blank slate, move the mantel up higher and paint with an accent color. If you’re able to get new furniture, I would recommend something softer and lighter so it’s not such a stark contrast. With a few simple changes, you can totally transform this room!
