You don’t need bins and bins of Christmas-themed trinkets to bring the magic of the season to life in your home. Those plastic Christmas decorations look festive and fun on the store shelves, but the magic fades pretty quickly when you realize you have to find somewhere to store them away for the rest of the year. And we all know what happens next year when we pull all of last year’s decor out of the bins, only to realize that it isn’t really trendy or “our style” anymore. Building a solid collection of foundational Christmas pieces - basic garlands, wreaths, faux greenery, etc. - allows us to decorate simply and beautifully every year, and add in natural elements and ribbons whenever and however inspiration strikes without filling our basements with more junk. In our little old house, it’s a strategy that works well and doesn’t take up too much of our very precious storage space.
