Our house may be 120 years old, but when we moved in, it didn’t have a lot of the design features that you associate with charming old houses. And while the main part of the house is the oldest, there are additions that are 100 years old (the kitchen), 40 years old (the primary bedroom/hallway/bath), and less than 10 years old (the mudroom and front porch), so bringing all the parts together into one cohesive-ish unit took some intentional planning. These are some of my favorite design elements we incorporated that made the old parts of our house feel cozy and personality-filled, and helped the newer parts fit right in.
