When I first started to travel, I told myself that I would try not to re-visit a place I’ve already been to since my list of places to see in the world is so long but after traveling for about five years now, I’ve discovered that it’s important to revisit the places that we instantly fell in love with at first sight because every time you go back, you leave with different experiences and each time you go back, you dive deeper and deeper into the layers that make the places so great. One of the highlights of our adventure in Singapore was walking the colorful streets of Joo Chiat and having lunch with local Zizi, a friend of Rajkumar, @shangrilasg's Chef Concierge who took us on a local adventure through the city. Zizi carries out her father's 70 year long tradition of making the most authentic (and delicious) handmade popiahsin Singapore. The shop is located in the modest little Kway Guan Huat storefront where everything is made fresh. We learned how to stuff the popiahs and were taught how important it is to roll the skin with love and prayers during the process to pass on blessings to the person you make them for. I've been fortunate enough to see many volcanoes around the world but Mt. Fuji truly took my breath away. It's simplicity, symmetry and strength are awe-inspiring and there are so many drastically different landscape viewpoints to see it from. This view was from Lake Kawaguchi, a great starting point to view the mountain.

We visited the town of Salamanca for the first time and at first glance, I assumed it would be similar to any other town we've visited before but the moment we began to stroll the streets, I knew there was something incredibly special about this place. We walked through the Plaza Mayor where it's said to be the place where locals go to get the scoop about what's going on in town, the energy was just as infectious as if you were standing in Times Square! The town is uniform in color and architecture but when the sun goes down, the golden tones of the walls give off a luminous glow, making this town even more magical than it already is. The details of every corner, the beautiful people and the spiritual presence give life to Salamanca. Saudade became my favorite word when I learned of it after visiting Brazil a couple years ago and it just stuck with me. I was reacquainted with the word during my time in Portugal and I experienced the feeling on my last day in Lisbon. Happy 2017 Dame Travelers & friends! Today marks 2 years since I launched the Dame Traveler blog and I cannot believe how much has happened since then. 3 years ago I had just graduated from nursing school, got married and snagged a dream nursing job. Shortly after, my whole world came crashing down after a work related injury that ended my nursing career due to my Scoliosis condition and spinal fusion. I fell into bed rest for 9 months, depressed and needed a project to lift my spirits. That's when I noticed a lack of female travel communities on @Instagram, so I started the #dametraveler hashtag and became the 1st female travel community on Insta! Little did I know then, that it would change my life forever and it's largely thanks to you guys. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for all of your support. I share my story with you because it's proof that dreams come true with a lot of faith, hard work and perseverance. This journey has been filled with wonder, hard work, beauty, highs and lows. It hasn't been a smooth ride, I've made a lot of mistakes, burned some bridges and then built more and cried some tears yet I still continue to learn. We're all a work in progress and learning from the past helps morphs us into stronger individuals with better character. 2016 hasn't been the easiest on many of us and it has been proof that kindness today is more important than ever. I'll now leave you with these beautiful words by @_marisadonnelly: 'I hope you love fiercely. I hope you give people your heart and you let them hold yours. I hope you share your mind. I hope you believe in the future. I hope you quit measuring yourself and your relationship to those around you and find happiness on even your most difficult days. When my now dear friend and artist, @saramelotti_ approached me via email with an invite to photograph portraits of me in my natural setting and home of NYC, I couldn't help but feel completely honored. For starters, Sara is an incredibly inspirational soul who took a leap of faith by breaking out of the fashion industry as a fashion photographer as a result of the environment causing her to question her own beauty. She wanted to find a way to inspire all women to feel beautiful regardless of the picture perfect images and pressure we are bombarded with on the daily. So she started @questforbeauty.co, a project where she captures portraits of the essence of all types of women in their natural settings.
