that feeling when you’re literally standing on the space you had dreamed up when it was a pile of dirt 🥹😭

from the checkerboard pavers, the custom gas firepit, to the limestone on the walls and on the firepit surround, I love how this space came to life in that awkward little corner

backstory: this wasn’t originally meant to be a ‘nook’ with walls on three sides, but once we started demoing the backyard, we realized the trees we wanted to keep had roots spreading much wider than expected.

that shifted the wall design a bit, wrapping it around the tree on the right and hence the awkward nook situation 😅 but honestly, it ended up making the space feel even cozier, so i’m not complaining 😍

picking the right shower fixtures for a primary bath isn’t just a finishing touch but impacts so much!

why it matters:

👉 FIRST it’s one of the most difficult and costly elements to change once walls are closed, especially when you go with a full slab like this one 😅

👉 this is a high-use space, and you’ll feel poor pressure, awkward controls, or temp swings every single day!

👉 the fixtures you select affect layout, usability, and how the shower functions long-term! this is where internal components matter more than aesthetics 🥲

👉 finish quality is critical in a wet environment with constant heat and cleaning, you cannot learn this the hard way 😅

especially in a primary bath, fixtures are a performance decision as much as a design one!

from wild + unused to calm + lived in 🤌

our backyard overall has been a multi-phase project we started in August and we have now completed 2 of 3 phases 🥲

the new porch has probably been the most impactful so far in the way we live - this area of our backyard went from overgrown chaos to calm oasis!

as with any big backyard project we almost lost our minds trying to get through the process 😅

here’s what’s been done so far:
- cleared out the entire central area (and moved ~35 loads of dirt out 💀)
- built a new retaining wall
- installed irrigation and sod throughout upper yard (grass is dormant up there for the winter but will be green soon i promise 😅)
- installed new fencing throughout
- built a 15’X28’ covered porch
- added motorized screens to keep bugs and sunlight out when needed
- added two gas-powered built-in heaters that have extended our outdoor season year-round and let me tell you it has been life-changing to step out when it’s 40° outside and curl up on the couch like it’s 70° 😮‍💨🥲
- installed porcelain pavers for the flooring
- opened out the doorway from a standard double door to a folding door that fully opens out our breakfast / dining rooms to the porch when needed

installed artificial turf all around and created an outdoor firepit area (more details to follow in subsequent reveals😏)

excited for phase 3 which is the pool build + all landscaping (the prettying up bit haha)
