It’s TIME! Hospital bound and sharing all of the things I packed in my hospital bag below and as many linked as I can.

Mom’s Bag: Comfy clothes/PJs (I brought one short/top set, one pant/top set, and a sweater), shower sandals, slippers, cozy socks, toiletries (makeup, face wash, tooth brush/paste, shower necessities, deodorant, chapstick is a big one, etc - for all of these I bought an extra of the products I use already to pack so I don’t have to scramble last minute), towel (apparently hospital towel suck), hair care products (hair ties/clips, brushes, dryer, iron, dry shampoo, etc), postpartum products (I got the Frida kit: peri bottle, disposable undies, cooling pads and liners, and healing foam), labor gown (Lila), nursing bra and nipple cream if planning to breast feed, going home outfit

Baby bag: onesies, mittens and socks, hat, swaddle, going home outfit, some diapers and wipes, pacies/pouch, bottles and formula if planning to bottle feed, car seat ready to go

Partners bag: comfortable clothes and shoes, toiletries, extra pillow and blanket, something to keep them busy (laptop, iPad, book, etc).

Others: insurance info/ID’s, portable speaker and playlist, extra long charging cords/extension surge protector, portable egg nightlight, travel sound machine, mini fan, eye mask (to sleep when it’s bright in the room), your own water bottle, snacks, champagne/wine, real camera

This is going to take longer than one post so I’m going to start by talking about the equipment I use to get the shots I want, even when I’m home by myself. The next one will be about the photos I take, and lastly one will be on how I edit my photos.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
📸 Camera: you don’t have to get the most expensive camera, but if you are serious about taking good photos you should invest in something that’s not your phone. Do some research to decide what kind of camera best suits your needs and your budget. Mine is the Nikon D5600 DSLR. Mirorrless cameras are also a great option.
•
🎞 Lenses: to me this is more important than the camera itself. The one I use the most is my Tamron 24-70/2.8. It gives me a wide range of zoom at a constant aperture, which allows me to zoom without changing the exposure. I spent more on this than I did on my camera, but there are plenty of options that will do the trick without breaking the bank.
•
🔭 Tripod: this is necessary if you’re going to be trying to get images of yourself when you’re alone, and I also use my tripod for my layout photos (like this one). The tripod I use is a ZOMEi Tripod. It’s a middle size but folds up nicely so I can bring it when Erik and I travel.
•
🖱 Remote: Also necessary if you’re going to take photos of yourself, because who wants to set the timer and try to get into a good position for every photo? My camera allows me to flip the screen around so I can aim it at myself and then click away.
•
💡 Light: because sometimes the flash on the camera just isn’t enough. I got the Altura AP-UNV2 external flash to add on when I want my photos to be a little extra bight.
•
🔋 Extras: buy extra batteries so you don’t ever have to worry about your camera dying on you, and a overlying case to make sure everything it always safe and well protected.

ITS FINALLY HERE! After two years of people asking me for my makeup routine (yes, people have actually asked me for it and I’m not just saying that) I finally took the time to create my FIRST IGTV video for you all, aside from our wedding video which doesn’t count because I didn’t create that myself. Someone once said that you should pack as many outfits as days you’re going to be on a trip x 3, just to be safe. JK, no one said that, but I feel like this is usually how I end up packing for long trips ✈️. Quick weekend trips? Piece of cake; I can map out my outfits for that. But when packing for a two week trip and it’s 50 degrees at night and 80 during the day, not so easy 🤷🏻‍♀️. So here are some of the tips I gave myself and hopefully they will help you when you need them: ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
🧳 Pack at least one of each of what you know you will want, and then extras of things you will wear more often. For example, one pair of jeans, one light/dark pant, two pairs of shorts, half of your trips duration of long sleeves (if cold vaca), ditto for short sleeves, etc. This way you can mix and match and repeat outfits without anyone knowing. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
👚 Color coordinate. Try to pack similar colors so that the accessories you bring will go with everything. I packed one pair of heels, boots, and sneakers, two belts, purses, and scarves, one denim jacket and two heavier jackets, and I made sure each item goes with basically any of my outfits. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
🧺 Do laundry! Look up places on your trip that have a laundry service available and take advantage of it when you can. This way you can pack less and wear more and you don’t have to worry about offending people sitting next to you on your fights. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
👋🏼 Leave stuff behind. Intentionally, unintentionally, whatever you prefer. Erik and I are both planning on leaving some shoes behind as a donation, but I already lost a pair of pants somewhere and he left some dress shirts in the closet of the last hotel we stayed at. Whether it’s something related to school, work, or our personal lives, there aren’t many days that we don’t have to overcome at least one obstacle (large or small) 🚧. Most of the time, we have no control over the hardships we face. What we CAN control is how we react to them. Do you let challenges break you down? Or do you fight through them? Do you let them affect the way you feel for a while? Or do you let go quickly? 🤷🏻‍♀️ when it comes down to it, it’s not the obstacles we face that define us, but how we handle them and grow from them. That being said, I hope we can all act like the sun ☀️; if something bothers us today, let’s start off with a beautiful beginning tomorrow. Exercise in the morning, before your brain figures out what you’re doing 🏋🏻‍♀️ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
For the record, I am absolutely not a morning person. Never have been, never will be (#nightowl fo life🦉). During the week I work out immediately after work (if I go home first there is a zero percent chance I make it to the gym). But on the weekends, I like to try to reap the benefits of a morning workout ☀️. What benefits you ask? Well, a.m. workouts have been shown to not only burn more fat (exercising on an empty stomach can burn as much as 20% more fat), it has also been shown to make food less appealing later on 🤐. In addition, exercising in the morning will make you want to be more active (and less lazy) throughout the day. Another benefit associated with exercising in the morning is that you can build muscle more efficiently (due to increased testosterone levels in the a.m.) 💪🏼. Plus you’ll get the benefits of working out in general (deceased blood pressure, decreased risk of diabetes, sleeping better at night, among others). And one last added plus - you’ll have the rest of your day to do whatever you want without the guilt of skipping the gym 😊. When it comes down to it, as long as your are getting it in, a work out is a work out (morning, night, lunch break, or whenever), so let’s all inspire each other to get moving 🏃🏻‍♀️ (and yes, I am officially up to 7 pull-ups!!) 💕 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Lately I have had a lot of people ask me if they should go into medicine. People who have voiced concern about the hardships, the hours, or the lifestyle. People unsure of whether or not medicine would be for them. The answer to that question is not something I can answer for you, but something only you can answer for yourselves. I can tell you that no, it won’t be easy. If it were easy everyone would do it. Yes, it’s going to take a lot of work, and a lot of dedication. You’re going to drink so much caffeine that baristas will know your order by heart. You’re going to miss special occasions with loved ones. You’re going to spend late nights reading until you can’t keep your eyes open anymore. You’re going to wonder what it would be like to be like one of your friends, who already has a job and a normal life. You’re going to wonder how you will ever pay off your loans. You’re going to learn what it feels like to tell someone they have a terminal illness. You’re going to make mistakes. You’re going to question whether or not you made the right decision, multiple times. Just a few of my favorite things. Im thankful that I’m not in a long distance relationship, but Erik travels for work so he’s sometimes gone for weeks at a time 🛫. When he’s home, we take full advantage of our time together. We motivate each other to work out, try new restaurants, visit the beach, cook dinners, and just hang out on the couch with our cat child 🐈. It’s true that absence makes the heart grow fonder, and when he’s home I really appreciate the time that we spend together. What did you do this weekend?
