On a platform that’s inundated with pretty pictures, it seems that nothing is good enough for the Internet Troll. “You’re annoying.” “You’re dog is going to bite someone.” Or my favorite: “Oh look you’re rich, you can put rugs on top of rugs.” 😦 A normal reaction to these hateful comments is to be angry, hurt... to want to jump up and defend myself.

But in a moment of reflection, I have realized that these remarks aren’t about me at all. It’s about the person who left them. Someone who is so discontent with their own life that they try and project their insecurities onto me. So at the end of the day, I don’t feel sorry for myself. I feel sorry for them. And I hope that they never have to experience the judgement that they themselves are so quick to pass. True fact: I’m part reptile. 🐊 My parents often talk about the day they picked me up from the airport, when out of the gangway emerged two babies. One so hairy it could pass for a monkey and the other with dry, scaley legs. “We really didn’t want the monkey-baby,” my mom always jokes as if they had a choice. Last week in Boston, I was so terrified to get on an escalator (it was moving extremely fast, in my opinion) that I turned around and ended up slamming into the person behind me. The average user follows 1,000+ accounts. So when I post at 9 pm and followers don’t log in until 9 am the next day, are they going to scroll back through 12 hours worth of posts? Highly doubtful. Our photos will be buried. ⚰️

I have a love/hate relationship with high waisted jeans. Sure, they make my tokus look like I’ve been doing burpees since birth. But does that make up for the fact that I have to unbutton them every time I sit down? They’re a cruel reminder that, “No Emily you don’t work out. And yes that double cheeseburger WAS a bad idea.” Not to mention, I’ve sent many a waitress to therapy after forgetting to button back up before leaving a restaurant.

You know what really cramps my style? BASEBOARD HEATING! 😡 Why? Because they have all these rules like:

1. Don’t put your sofa in front of them or it blocks the airflow
2. Don’t hang curtains near them or they might catch on fire
3. Don’t place your plants too close to them because they’ll shrivel up and die

So the moral of the story is... if you have baseboard heat, you can either shove all your furniture in the middle of the room. OR, be like me, disobey all these rules, and hope for the best. 🤞🏼

I’ve been blaming Instagram and the algorithm for a lot of my failures lately. “My followers aren’t seeing my content,” is one of my favorite excuses. Four months ago, my account was growing so fast that I felt confident enough to write a blog series about it. And now - as my numbers remain stagnant, I feel like a fraud.

Sometimes I want to quit. Some days I feel uninspired. But then I take a step back... this COMPLETELY FREE platform has allowed me to live a life beyond imagine. I get gifted free products, work with amazing brands, and am paid to give reviews all because I post pictures to my feed. 🤯

And here I am pointing the finger at Instagram when they’ve done nothing but provide me with a career. So instead of complaining, maybe it’s time to shake up my content, to work harder, to make a change and to stop accusing the dang algorithm for all my problems. Because at the end of the day, complaining about a problem without posing a solution is called whining. And nobody likes a whiner.
