The Friday Edit - 11.22.24

A while back, I started a new IG for a little thing I like to call The Friday Edit. I then realized that running (yet another) Instagram account made me wanna punch myself in the throat. So I present, The Friday Edit, just on my feed, on my terms, hopefully every other week. It’s just shit I’ve been liking. That’s literally it.

1) Winter Wonderland candle from @target - this smells like a hug. Trust.

2) Anastasia Brow Freeze - where TF have I been? I recently snagged this per a friend’s rec and it is, by far, the best brow gel I’ve ever used.

3) Diabolical Lies (podcast) on Substack. Hosts Caro Claire Burke & Katie Gatti Tassin tackle the important things - feminism, Trad Wiffery, & talking us off ledges post-election. They’re wicked smart, and my god, during the episode on Bama Rush, I laughed my ass off (ā€œredacted name of sorority girl who was mean to Katieā€). Anyway, just listen to it.

4) This cozy sweater. Yes, it’s from Amazon. Listen, we’re doing our best. If it makes you feel better, most of my links are now Target. Trading one corporation for another, necessary evil maybe?

5) Jergens Instant Sun is a product that I could legitimately write a thesis on. It is SO good, inexpensive, fades well, & dries quickly. I apply it with my hands (& not a mitt) because I’m a heathen.

6) Disclaimer (show) on AppleTV. I’ll basically flock to the church of Cate Blanchett until the day I die, so I’m biased. But, I loved this, loved the writing & storyline, & it’s a quick little binge at 7 episodes. TW for sexual violence.

8) On Our Best Behavior (book) by @eliseloehnen. Doing a re-read of this post-election & wowzers, does it feel right. This book is excellent, dissects how women are made into people-pleasing machines, & what the fuck we can do about it.

9) YSL Libre Flowers & Flames perfume. I was sent this by YSL, and let’s be honest, I tend to be a relatively harsh critic of scents, especially ones I am sent via PR. This was a deliiiiight.

See you next time!

THE FRIDAY EDIT - 2.23.24, let’s get right to it.

•The Beis luggage absolutely lives up to the hype. I was on the hunt for a sleek, smart carry-on & I have been so impressed with everything from Beis.

•Hear me out: this is the ugliest bra of all time AND also the comfiest. It truly feels like you aren’t wearing anything. It’s perfect for office wear, running errands, all the basics.

•One In A Millennial is my new bible. It’s perfection in literary form.

•I’ll tell anyone who will listen about the Good Molecules wake up eye gel. It’s immaculate and like, $7.

•The Bissell steam cleaner is easily the best purchase I’ve made as it relates to household items. It disinfects without any chemicals and gets all that grime out of ANYWHERE.

•The Fury was my Feb. book club book & I was not disappointed. A little slow to start, but then strap in for a damn good time.

•My latest makeup obsession is the Milk concealer. It sits beautifully on the skin & creases far less than others. It’s stunning.

•This one shoulder top from Showpo is the latest & greatest addition to my wardrobe. Can easily be dressed up or down, & I’m fully on the Show bandwagon now.

The Friday Edit, let’s get to it.

•The Beis crossbody is truly my favorite crossbody of all time (and yes, beats my Lulu one). Did I mention it can hold your Stanley cup? Yes. It’s a work of art.

•The Lost Apothecary is my latest read and my god it’s so much fun. Witchy undertones? Yes please.

•The Versed AHA body scrub is the greatest thing I’ve put on my body as of late. It’s perfect for the winter months & getting all that dead skin off. Yum, right? Lmaoooo.

•This two piece set from the Zon is my latest obsession. It’s comfy but also functional. It’s the ideal travel outfit or comfy business casual fit.

•Oil pulling is a real thing and I am officially a believer. My teeth are WHITE like 10 days in. Be sure to buy directly from GuruNanda.

•A hill I’ll die on is that the Ulta lip mask is THE best lip mask on the market. If you want an ultra-hydrating solution for your lips that REMAINS on while you sleep, this is for you.

•These boots from the Zon are SO comfy, yet obviously functional and adorable. Perfect for business or play.

•The Lancome GĆ©nifique serum has worked its way into my holy grail products. You will not regret this purchase.

Welcome to today’s Friday Edit; let’s get to it. šŸ–¤

-This three pack of camis from Amazon are my ride-or-die tops, and they’re perfection for wearing around the house, athleisure, or for a light workout. I *have* had a good sweat in these and I actually don’t mind it. To each their own.

-The Good Molecules Discoloration Correcting Serum is easily the skincare product I’ve repurchased the most. It’s $12 & one of the best ones on the market.

-This mini fan has saved my life when applying skincare & makeup. I used a piece of cardstock for over a year & this was the best $10 I ever spent.

-First Lie Wins was my first book of 2024 & it did NOT disappoint.

-Been utilizing more matcha in my routine & this brand is perfect. Affordable & tastes amazing.

-I use this Dr. Bronner’s magic balm nearly every night before bed to relax my neck & shoulders. I’ve gone through two tins & it’s a nightstand staple.

-Headaches no more. This headache cap is one of my top ten purchases on Amazon EVER.

-This juicer is what I use to make all my celery juice. Honestly, I think unless you’re using it everyday, using a more affordable juicer is the way to go. This one is now a kitchen staple.

Probably my finest collection to date… the sleep edit. Because in 2024, I’m not f*cking around with my sleep or poops. I have a few friends who poke fun at my aggressive bedtime routine, but I get the deepest, best sleep of my life, so I’ll take the hit. šŸ’…šŸ¼šŸ«

All are on my #ltk and on my AZN storefront under ā€œThe Friday Edit.ā€

THE FRIDAY EDIT - 1.12.24

•First up are these rechargeable wall sconces from AZN that are the perfect addition to our master bedroom. They change colors if that’s your thing and are excellent quality. The best part? No hard wiring whatsoever.

•I’ve been drinking Four Sigmatic Calm for years and it just never gets old.

•This ring set from Uncommon James is my ride or die set right now. Use code ā€˜MAGGIEGB’ for $$ off your order.

•My husband got me the Ugg Tasman slippers for Christmas and I’ve been living in them since. They’re on back order, but well worth the wait IMO.

•The Seven Year Slip gets 5/5 stars from me. Such a breeze to read, but touches on love and grief and all their complexities in a beautiful way. I can’t wait to read more of Poston’s work.

•If you follow my personal Insta, I won’t shut up about my SAD lamp for season affective disorder. I use mine every morning and it has its permanent place on my desk. This is the one I have but there are tons on the market.

•The Zodiac candles from Target are basically my personality at this point. The Leo one is cozy with a hint of fruitiness and it’s perfectly paired with my candle warming lamp.

•This top from Vuori was a Christmas gift from my best friend and my gateway drug into this company. Their athleisure is next level; I have legitimately never worn something so soft. This company is the next Lululemon.

•I’d be remiss to not mention a skincare item and this week it’s my ride or die moisturizer, the Sake Bomb from Educated Mess. It’s nourishing, lightweight, and a little goes a long way. It’s perfect for the winter months in the Midwest. Can be found at educatedmess.com. Code MGEHLSEN saves you $$

THE FRIDAY EDIT - 1.5.24

First Friday Edit of 2024, let’s dive right in.

•My yearly rewatch of Desperate Housewives is officially upon us, and I regret nothing.

•These socks from Amazon will make you feel adorable, regardless of wearing a trash bag.

•We received these coupe glasses as a wedding gift because I shamelessly added them to my registry, and they’re perfect in every way, shape, and form and will fulfill any and all Gatsby desires.

•My husband got me this sweater for Christmas and I’ve lived in it since. It’s oversized, cozy, and perfect for the frigid cold that’s among us any day now *le sigh*.

•I thrifted a pair of Good American jeans recently and will likely never go back. By the way, check local & online resale shops first! There are so many good ones online available right now. They’re comfortable, form fitting but never too snug, and the high waisted ones are truly high waisted. They’re my favorite jean and it isn’t even close.

•Bloom Effects can basically do no wrong in my eyes at this point, but it’s worth noting how absolutely amazing this body lotion is. It’s more of a body salve. It presents lotion, but then changes to this buttery, velvety balm. It’s a saving grace for my skin right now.

•I know, I know. We’re over hearing about how good YSL Beauty is. But, I’m absolutely obsessed with basically every product from their line and this eyeshadow quad is no exception. It is just. that. good.

•Osea is another brand that has yet to fail me. I’ve tried a slew of products and they’re all good, but their body oil is a standout in the lineup. I like to use this after dry brushing post-shower. Say hello to the best skin of your life.

#LTKSeasonal #LTKbeauty #LTKfindsunder100
If 2023 was the year of any brand for me, it was YSL. Each of these products is an absolute staple in my collection, so some brief notes on each:

•Rouge VoluptĆ© Shine Lipstick Balm: if your favorite chapstick, lip oil, & lipstick had a baby. It’s delightful, light on the lips, & nourishing.

•NU BARE LOOK TINT Hydrating Skin Tint: the ONLY skin tint I have been using for the last couple of months. It’s perfect for winter with the added hyaluronic acid, and just adds the subtle something we all hope & pray for when it comes to anything you’re putting all over your face.

•NU LIP & CHEEK BALMY TINT: again, if your favorite lip balm & cream blush had a baby. It is… just so good. The shade here is Nu Chills - soft plum, and it’s been my go to blush and lip tint for the holiday and winter months.

•Black Opium Eau de Parfum: wore this on my wedding day and it is THE perfume. It’s got a musky undertone that makes it equal parts sexy and sophisticated.

•Touche Ɖclat All-Over Brightening Concealer Pen: this and the skin tint are a match made in heaven. This concealer is light, buildable, and blends like a dream. My only complaint is the pen itself, but I use a brush, scrape it off the pen, and apply that way.

•Lash Clash Extreme Volume Mascara: it’s just an absolutely rock solid mascara. I am usually skeptical of high-end mascaras and this one did not disappoint in any capacity. It provides length & volume without leaving you looking like Cruella.

#LTKbeauty #LTKGiftGuide #LTKHoliday
2023 was officially the year I became a ~skincare connoisseur.~

These two products are essentially what I’d take to a dessert island with me if I had to choose. First up is the Bloom Effects Tulip Dew Drops. If you take ANYTHING from me — EVER — let it be this: I have never experienced another product like these. These make your skin dewy, plump, and glossed up in the best way. A couple of these under your makeup and people will legitimately think you drank some magical f*ckin potion or had work done, and either is a good thing, IMO. Not to mention, the company’s story is absolutely incredible.

Next up is Educated Mess’ Golden Hour Gold Stabilized Vitamin C Serum. This is, bar none, the best vitamin C on the market. I can’t believe how much brighter my skin looks after using this, plus it has INSANELY good ingredients at an incredibly reasonable price point. Oh, did I mention their co-founder Alex is one of my fav people ever? She’s a cosmetic chemist and knows her sh*t when it comes to product formulation.

There ya have it folks. My two ride or die skincare products that I’ll simply *never* go without again. Cheers. šŸ’…šŸ¼

P.S. Alex was kind enough to throw me a code for Educated Mess. Use ā€˜MGEHLSEN’ for $$ off.

#LTKbeauty #LTKGiftGuide #LTKfindsunder100
THE FRIDAY EDIT 12.22.23 - also known as basically my top products of 2023.

•The Givenchy powder is worth every. single. penny. AND, it lasts 5ever. I’ve had mine for over four months & we’re probably halfway out.
•If you purchase a singular skincare product this year, let it be Bloom Effects Tulip Dew Drops. Oh my god, these are life-changing.
•This cozy sweatsuit from Amazon is made from THICK fabric and washes well. One of the best sets you’ll find on Amazon quality-wise IMO.
•The dainty pendant necklace from Uncommon James is my go-to jewelry staple right now. Use code MAGGIEGB to save $$ (also a perfect stocking stuffer)
•These nude pumps are a staple and, dare I say, the most comfortable heel I own. No, I’m not concussed.
•Moon Juice’s Magnesiom is THE elite magnesium supplement with traceable ingredients. It is superior to every other magnesium supp I’ve tried.
•I’ll never use another sunscreen. The Beauty of Joseon SPF is at an amazing price point & goes on the skin so smooth. Bonus points: it doesn’t pill under makeup.
•When McKinsey Comes to Town: an enraging read about one of the world’s largest consulting firms.
•White Christmas, because obviously.

Happy Holidays, y’all. šŸŽ„ā¤ļø

#LTKHoliday #LTKSeasonal #LTKfindsunder50
Now, I don’t claim to know sh*t about f*ck as it relates to fashion bloggers. But one thing I do know about is utilizing nude and black in basically every outfit. I never used to consider myself a capsule wardrobe gal, but when it comes to nude & black basics, I’ve got you covered. A rundown:

•A staple, high neck black bodysuit is, in my humble opinion, the cornerstone of building a black/nude edit-friendly closet. I am wearing the one linked from Amazon which is basically the ultimate Skims dupe.

•These gold earrings have been my ride or die for two years. And if you lose them? Great. It’s like $15 for a replacement pack.

•The exact pants I’m wearing are from a local boutique (brand is Mimosa), and while I couldn’t find the exact pair, I found two dupes via Amazon & Express. People really sleep on Express, but if you’re a former pageant gal then you understand the hype.

•This YSL lip rouge is all I’ve been wearing for the last month. It’s creamy, hydrating, and best of all, it doesn’t move. It still remains in tact after hours of eating and drinking. Think of all the time you’ll save not having to reapply your lipstick. Work smarter, not harder.

•Jessica McClintock wasn’t f*cking around with this nude clutch. I purchased this a few months back for a wedding and am obsessed. It comes with a gold chain for over-the-shoulder wear, as well.

•While we’re talking about purses I cannot get over, this black Gucci dupe from the ā€˜Zon. I bought this last spring and reached for it (and still do) for every. single. outing. It is the PERFECT handbag. Best part? It’s like $25.

•These nude pumps (again, the ā€˜Zon… I do promise I shop elsewhere) are THE most comfortable stilettos I own. I bought them in three colors I loved them so much.

•A friendly kitten heel dupe from Zara are your best friend for protecting your feet while elevating your lewk.
