If you want to keep your mudroom neat and tidy - and be able to clean it up quickly when it inevitably gets messy - here’s what you’ll need...👇🏼👇🏼👇🏼
️⃣ A place to hang things, like hoodies, coats, and bags. You can put in wall hooks, get a coat tree, or install cubbies if you’re feeling fancy (and have the budget).
️⃣ Homes for shoes and accessories. We use baskets for our accessories (think hats, gloves, scarves, etc.) and tuck our shoes under a bench so nobody trips on them.
️⃣ Spots for miscellaneous items, like mail, keys, sunglasses, wallets, and other random stuff that would otherwise end up on your kitchen counter. For this, we use a couple of wall-mounted organizers as well as an over-the-door organizer.
️⃣ A little bit of discipline. In addition to making sure you put things where they belong within your mudroom, you’ll have to take a few minutes to clear out the clutter when things get crazy. No matter how big your mudroom is, it can only hold so much! That said, when you notice that things are starting to pile up (more coats than space to hang them, etc.), you have to take a few minutes to remove the extras. These items should have designated spots within your home, outside of your mudroom. You want to treat your mudroom as a temporary holding cell, not a permanent residence.
