It took me a year to figure out what this space needed: window seat, a bistro table and two chairs. The room went from being attractive but ignored by my family, to being used daily. The unexpected winners are the pets, who can now sit on the window seat and see outside- life changing!

Slow design is the best way to make sure your house actually works for you. Who’s with me???

The perfect chairs for this space are sitting on a container ship somewhere… I think Covid has made us all slow designers.

Before I installed this mural, I showed it to a friend over lunch. She looked at it and said “yeah, I don’t think I could pull that off…” and that’s how I knew I was on the right track!

Kidding aside, it’s ok to be bold, be weird, take a risk if it suits you. Mix patterns. I brought more pattern in to this room with a vintage plaid flannel throw and the gorgeous Oushak rug gifted by @greenfrontrugs. It’s my favorite kind of update; it’s not permanent but the new elements bring out different tones in the mural and make the room feel fresh.

I’m feeling all kinds of optimism since my daughter went back to school in person. For now her “virtual schooling station” is just a desk for homework and crafting. This kind of normalcy is so welcome. http://liketk.it/3cWCJ #liketkit @liketoknow.it

Sharing my daughter’s room today. It’s a work in progress— she’s been living in a very blah white space for months. We just installed her sunny new headboard and it adds so much. Eventually we want to paint a mural on the bed wall, but in the meantime I used these cranes that I cut out of a roll of peel and stick wallpaper. They add just enough movement and interest until we get it all figured out.
