I used to think simplifying only meant constantly getting rid of things or trying to own as little as possible.

But over time, I’ve realized simplifying for our family has ALSO looked like being intentional about what we bring into our home in the first place.

We recently replaced our barstools because our old ones only fit four kids at the island, and after our family grew, we knew we would need something that functioned better our (everchanging!) life.

I still care about choosing pieces that are practical, good quality, and meant to last — especially for things we use every single day. I was grateful to find these solid wood stools for $228. Being cute is also important to me. Seems superficial but I want my home to make me happy visually along with being functional.

And honestly, plants are one thing I’ll probably never stop bringing into our home. They make our space feel calmer, cozier, and more alive. They also improve your mood + indoor air quality. Win.

Definitely not saying I have this all figured out because I absolutely still make impulsive purchases sometimes too. I’m just trying to become more thoughtful over time about what truly adds value to our home and everyday life 🤍

I honestly used to think motorized shades felt unnecessary.

Until we had babies sharing our room 😂

+ once we started using them, I realized how often we’re actually darkening the room throughout the day for naps, bedtime, lighting changes, etc.

AND with our bed sitting directly in front of 3 windows, adjusting blinds and curtains isn’t exactly as simple as just reaching over and opening them 😅

Since having more kids and being on a “simple living” journey, I’ve learned to really value anything that simplifies our everyday routines in this season of life.

You can even see in the “before” clip (at 14 sec) that our curtain rod had started bending in the middle from how often we were constantly pulling the curtains open & closed throughout the day 😅

Which honestly just proved to me how much wear and tear those little repeated tasks create over time.

SCHOOL ROOM MAKEOVER IN PROGRESS! 🌎 📚 ✏️

FIRST OFF!! Color drenched the room in @benjaminmoore Carolina Gull and 😍

NEXT - I needed some cabinetry more suitable for a school room and less for “looks” - the hutch I refinished was just too fragile for clumsy kids 💃 🪞

not pictured is the almost TWO HOURS it took me to put together each bookshelf 😳😂

We already had this console table we got from @walmart last spring for our bonus room — but it was literally never used. When I decided to get something more functional than the hutch, I did some measuring and realized the matching bookshelves would make this all fit EXACTLY in this room!! How perfect!! 🤩

Next I have to refinish a table I thrifted because I love it but hate the stain color, and hang some school related pictures 🦴 🔠 🧪

I’m happy with this so far!! The shelves are definitely not the best quality - easy to scratch. But they will be perfect for a room that kids will be kids in anyways!!

This is the Chris Loves Julia x Loloi Scottie in Color Olive / Pebble. I’ve only had the rug a week. It’s thick and soft under foot. My only complaint is - like any other CLJxL rug I’ve purchased — it sheds. I’m hoping it stops because it’s in the kitchen and I love it 😭

so I’ve had these Amazon barstools for 9 months (since before they became popular in the “influencer” world) and here’s what I have to say.

The quality is absolutely there (or at least these ones are), and for the price I feel like they are a steal BUT here’s the issue

The seat material was absolutely awful. Back in February I reupholstered mine (so easy!) with some wipeable linen look-alike material. I don’t know why anyone ever thought it would be a good idea to have a stool in an area that you eat — that isn’t wipeable and in fact basically soaks up stains? 🤔

ANYWAYS they are soooo easy to clean now! Much better 👏🏻

The OG stain was lovely, but it was too close of a match to my cabinets and I was looking to add depth and warmth to our space so I chose to also restain them a darker color 🤎
