10 things I’d tell you about Madrid if I loved you 🇪🇸 1. Flea markets have the best souvenirs They’re way cheaper than tourist shops. The same magnets I bought for 8 euros were only one euro. Baseball caps that I always buy for the guys as a souvenir for 5 euros. But they mostly take cash and only open on Sunday morning. 2. The palace is free after 4 PM You only need about 2 hours. Go late, save money, still get the full experience. We figured this out random but worked out great for us TG. 3. The metro doors don’t open automatically There’s a handle or button. Otherwise, you’ll be standing there wondering why the doors won’t open. I learned that the hard way lol 4. The sun rises around 9 AM Late mornings are built into the culture. Don’t fight it. Works out perfectly if you get jet legged the way I do! 5. Life in Madrid doesn’t end when the sun goes down Shops stay open until 9:30 PM. Restaurants until midnight. Coming from LA where everything shuts down by 8? Huge shock. Can imagine walking into a restaurant at the 10 pm?? 6. Madrid will secretly make you hike The streets look flat… until they’re not. Wear comfortable shoes. 7. You don’t need a packed itinerary Some of the best moments happen between plans - walking, wandering, stopping for tapas. 8. Flamenco is still a must Even though it’s from Seville, not Madrid - go anyway! Sitting at an UNESCO world heritage site watching a flamenco show is a once in a lifetime experience. Ask me where to go 👀 9. Don’t stress about where to eat There’s a cute tapas bar on every corner. You really can’t go wrong. 10. You’ll walk more than you think Even with the metro, Madrid is a walking city. Everything is closer than it looks. It takes less time to walk somewhere va Uber or take the metro.
