Confession time… 🙋🏼‍♀️

For the longest time, I avoided athletic shorts with the built-in underwear. I don’t know why… it just seemed weird to me.

Well…

I have officially seen the light. 😂

Why did nobody tell me these were so freaking comfortable?!

No wedgies.
No pulling your underwear out of your butt every five minutes because your ass decided it was hungry. 🤣
No awkward little side-to-side wiggle pretending you’re “stretching.”
Just comfortable, stay-put underwear that actually does its job.

I’ve been living in these shorts ever since I bought them, & now I’m convinced every single pair of bottoms should come with built-in underwear. Jeans. Pants. Skirts. All of it. 😂

…Although, now that I’m saying it out loud, built-in underwear in jeans might be a little weird. 🤔🤣

I’ve definitely developed a thing for Bermuda shorts. 😊

As I’ve gotten older, I’ve realized I reach for them over & over again. They’re comfortable, forgiving, easy to move in, & can be dressed up or down depending on where the day takes me.

I’ve linked the exact pair I’m wearing in my LTK (they’re getting low in stock), along with a few other favorites in different styles.

I know some of them cost a little more than what I used to spend on shorts. But somewhere along the way, my mindset changed. Instead of buying several inexpensive pieces that end up sitting in my closet, I’d rather invest in something I truly love, wear all season long, & know will last.

For me, it’s become less about buying more… & more about buying better.

There’s something about Saturday mornings at the farmers market that just feels like summer.

Today’s outfit ended up being one of those combinations I probably never would’ve put together a year ago… a pair of gold cotton drawstring Free People shorts with a dark carnation pink Scoop baby doll top from Walmart. Add my fruit & veggie print Havaianas flip-flops, a boutique baseball cap, GOODR sunglasses, & I was good to go. 😂

The colors aren’t necessarily something I would’ve paired together in the past, but for some reason today… they just worked.

Today’s haul was simple but good: escarole, colorful cherry tomatoes, cucumbers, blueberries, goat milk soap, an essential oil bug repellent roll-on for my walks… & yes… a lemon blueberry danish and a strawberry cream danish. Balance, friends. 😏

I almost came home with a hibiscus, but I showed a little self-control. I should probably assess the garden before bringing one home. Maybe next Saturday. 🌺

☀️🤎 Errands first… sunshine later.

Today was the official road test for these olive utility pants & I think they passed. 😎 I had my eye on them for a while, ordered a medium first, & they were swimming on me. Sent them back, grabbed a small, & they’re still nice & relaxed without feeling oversized.

I love that the ankles have drawstrings so you can wear them loose & baggy or cinch them into more of a balloon style like I did today. Little tip: if you wrap the drawstrings around the outside of your ankle twice before tying them, you can get an even tighter cuff. 🙌

I paired them with a brown snug crop tank from Old Navy, my brown Old Navy gladiator sandals that I scored recently, Target sunglasses, & my little Free People boho bag from last summer. 🤎🌿

The hair… well… we’re experimenting. 😂 I went in with curl cream, Olaplex gel & beach spray. I may have gotten a little enthusiastic with the texture, but it’s summer. We’re playing around. By the end of the day it’ll probably be in a half bun because wearing my hair down in July feels like walking around with a wool sweater wrapped around my neck. 🥵🤣

Some people start their day with coffee.

I start mine with a stretch.

For the last five years, stretching has become as much a part of my routine as brushing my teeth. I do it almost every single day, and if I skip it, I genuinely feel it. My body feels tighter, my mind feels a little more scattered, and something just seems…off.

What started as a way to loosen up has turned into something so much bigger.

It’s my gentle way of waking up instead of launching into the day the second the alarm goes off.

It’s my daily check-in.

How’s my body feeling after this week’s workouts?

Am I carrying stress in my shoulders?

Do my hips feel tight after sitting too long?

Do I need to slow down today?

Stretching has taught me to pay attention.

Not just physically, but mentally & emotionally too.

Some days it’s energizing. Some days it’s calming. Some days it’s simply a reminder to breathe.

It’s helped me:
✨ Improve mobility & flexibility
✨ Ease stiffness & soreness
✨ Warm up before workouts or yardwork
✨ Relax before bed
✨ Reduce stress & tension
✨ Feel more connected to my body

As a health teacher, I spend a lot of time reminding students that wellness isn’t just exercise & nutrition. It’s learning to tune in to yourself.

And honestly, these few quiet minutes each day have become a form of self-care…a chance to connect physically, mentally, & even spiritually before the world starts asking things of me.

It’s amazing how something so simple can make you feel so much more like yourself.

I may have been admiring the white tile bathroom a little too much. 🤍😂 It might be stealing the spotlight… but this outfit deserves a little attention too.

I’ve said it before, & I’ll say it again… these Old Navy crinkle barrel drawstring pants are probably one of my favorite finds of the season. They’re lightweight, comfortable, & somehow still look put together.

My decision-making capacity was pretty limited, so I couldn’t go wrong with a snug black Old Navy tank. Then I pulled in a few soft touches with my cream Yankees cap, cream crossbody, & blush pink sandals.

This is definitely a combination I’ll be repeating all summer long. ☀️🖤

The end-of-year classroom cleanout is officially underway, which means I’m sorting, tossing, packing, organizing, and wondering why I saved half of this stuff in the first place.

Today’s fit understood the assignment: a cropped Old Navy muscle tank (the kind that doesn’t require HR intervention 😆), last season’s Free People pants that have become one of my favorite clearance finds, and my tried-and-true Birkenstocks.

Meanwhile, the hair situation remains a science experiment. Gray roots are coming in, the sun is bleaching out pieces from all the yard work, darker strands are showing up underneath, and apparently there’s a natural wave trying to emerge that would’ve saved me a fortune on perms back in the ‘80s. At this point, I’m just rolling with it and testing new things. Some days it’s blonde, some days it’s silver, some days it’s brown. If you could’ve seen what I woke up looking like this morning, you’d understand. 😂

Fresh Start Loading…

Every year, right about now, I look around my classroom and wonder how one person managed to collect this much stuff.

The last week of school isn’t really the last week at all.

It’s packing. Sorting. Organizing. Purging. Finding things I forgot existed. Deciding what stays and what finally gets tossed.

It’s a job I dread every June.

But there’s something satisfying about closing the door on one school year knowing the room is ready for a fresh start when I come back.

A clean slate.
New students.
New ideas.
New possibilities.

For now, though…

My son used to call them fun pants when he was an itty bitty. Anything with stripes, bright colors, flowers, or a crazy pattern automatically qualified.

Now he’s a mortgage-paying adult, but the name stuck.

And honestly? I think he was onto something.

Lately, I’ve been reaching for the fun pants more and more. Bright colors. Bold prints. Stripes. The things that make me smile before I’ve even left the house.

Maybe it’s age. Maybe it’s confidence. Maybe it’s finally realizing that I’ve spent far too much of my life worrying about fitting in.

Wearing the right thing.
Following the trends.
Not standing out too much.

But who decides what’s right anyway?

Who is this mysterious trend-setter we’re all supposed to listen to?

And why does one person’s opinion suddenly become everyone else’s rule?

I’ve spent enough years trying to fit inside boxes that never felt quite right.

These days, if I like it, I wear it.

If it’s colorful, comfortable, a little quirky, or makes me happy, even better.

Somewhere along the way, my give-a-f*ck broke.

Not in an angry way.

In a peaceful way.

The kind that comes from realizing life is way too short to spend it worrying about whether your pants are trendy enough.

So I’ll be over here wearing the fun pants.

And if someone gets to decide what’s in style, I’ve decided it might as well be me. ❤️

I’m completely obsessed.

Throw one over a simple outfit like this & suddenly it looks like you put in way more effort than you actually did. Pair it with a tank & distressed jeans, layer it over a summer dress, toss it on over a bathing suit… it just works.

Also, this gold color has me in a chokehold lately. 💛

It’s not replacing my long-standing love affair with red just yet… but it’s definitely making a strong case for itself.

Weekend farmer’s market adventures. ☀️🌿

I’m finally getting around to posting this fit from yesterday.

The tomatoes came home with me because they were juicy & looked too good to pass up. I grabbed some fresh spring mix for salads, radishes, a honeybee-scented goat milk soap that smells absolutely divine, & of course a bag of homemade apple cider cinnamon donuts because sometimes happiness comes in donut form. 🍩😂

The hibiscus iced tea was also non-negotiable. At this point it’s basically part of my farmer’s market routine.

We wandered through the vendors, enjoyed the sunshine, people watched, & admired what felt like every dog in town. It’s one of the few times I think, “Maybe I need a dog.” Then I remember who would be walking it at 5 AM in February. 😆

We also stopped downtown for breakfast. A lightly toasted jalapeño cheddar bagel piled with bacon, egg, cheese, sausage, & a drizzle of maple syrup. Was it a caloric splurge? Absolutely. Was it worth it? Also absolutely.

As for the outfit… lightweight, comfortable, breathable, & most importantly, I wasn’t sweating my ass off. That’s a weekend win in my book. ☀️

A strappy linen top, gold crinkle barrel pants, comfy sandals, gold jewelry, & a navy trucker hat that somehow ended up being exactly what this outfit needed.

The funny thing is, I think my favorite part might be the purse. ✨

It’s a thrifted beaded bag with little bits of gold, blue, cream, & brown woven throughout it. The kind of thing that most of us buy, tuck away in a closet, & save for a special occasion.

Not anymore.

Lately I’ve been trying to wear the things I love instead of waiting for the “right” time.

The gold buckles on the sandals, the gold lettering on the hat, the gold jewelry, the gold pants… somehow it all came together. 💛

And honestly, that’s become my favorite kind of outfit.

Not because it’s trendy.

Not because it’s what someone says I’m supposed to wear.

Just because I like it.

Somewhere along the way we started worrying about what’s in style, what’s out of style, what we’re “supposed” to wear, & whether someone else will approve.

Who the fuck cares? 😂

Wear the purse.

Wear the hat.

Mix the gold.

Buy the pants.

And if the Urban Outfitters app happens to be responsible for the hat… well… maybe don’t judge me. 🤦🏼‍♀️😂

Friday’s fit is amazing. ❤️

The oversized barrel cargos? Completely outside my normal comfort zone… which is probably why I’m so obsessed with them. They’re ridiculously lightweight, crazy comfortable, & I can already tell they’ll be sticking around well beyond summer.

The red striped babydoll tank? Yeah… my current personality trait at this point. 😂 I’ve been reaching for red more & more lately & I’m not even pretending to fight it.

Added the leopard print Vans because why not? 🐆 Then topped everything off with my “Hold Your Horses” trucker hat from a local boutique. The earrings came from a farmers market vendor last year & the jewelry situation remains exactly what you’d expect: gold, silver, all of it at once. ✨

I was originally planning to wear a graphic tee with these cargos, but once I put this together, the graphic tee never stood a chance.

Also… shoutout to my husband for helping me pick the hat this morning. He intentionally matched it to the Vans, which honestly impressed me more than it probably should have. The man is learning. 🤠😂
