Sept 2025 Menus

By mealandgrace

What my family and I are eating during the month of September đŸ«¶đŸ»

Pierogies for breakfast, dirty rice for dinner, and a slice of cinnamon maple pumpkin spice bread somewhere in between. đŸ„ŸđŸšđŸž Some days taste like comfort in three acts.

It’s leftover casserole-for-breakfast kind of Monday. Hash Brown Casserole from Magnolia Table is bubbling with cheese and comfort and tonight’s tortilla soup will keep the rhythm going. Full menu and notes are up on the blog — link in bio @mealandgrace.blog đŸ„”đŸ„Łâœš

It’s the kind of Friday where leftovers taste better than anything new. Mario’s pizza on the porch, a dirty soda in hand, and a slice of pumpkin spice bread waiting in the kitchen. Sometimes the table sets itself. đŸ•đŸ„€đŸž

Breakfast is a protein shake, but dinner is a Bacon & Leek Quiche from Magnolia Table, Vol. 2. đŸ„“đŸ„§ Cold butter and flour pulsed in the food processor make the flakiest crust, ready to hold something worth waiting for.

Today will begin with the whir of the blender, a protein shake whizzing itself into existence. I’ll toss in frozen fruit, milk, maybe even a spoonful of peanut butter, and let the blades do the heavy lifting. There’s a certain relief in knowing breakfast can be handled by a push of a button. My kitchen tip of the day? Always freeze bananas in halves before they go brown. They’ll make your shakes creamier and your mornings calmer.

By dinner, the kitchen won’t need much from me. Jambalaya will already be waiting in the fridge, leftovers ready to come back to life with just a little heat. I’ll splash in a bit of chicken stock when I rewarm it, because rice loves to drink up liquid the second it’s ignored. It’s less about cooking tonight and more about honoring the day before yesterday’s work, which feels like a kind of grace in itself.

And for dessert, the confetti sugar cookie sandwich will remind me that sometimes joy comes sprinkled in neon dots and stuck together with buttercream.

I can’t help but wonder
maybe the secret to a good life is just like the secret to a good kitchen. Know when to stir, know when to wait, and know when to let yesterday’s efforts carry you through today.

Breakfast will be the Bronson Scramblette, a little souvenir from the Beachwood Café in LA. Just me in the kitchen, whisking eggs with a splash of milk, blistering cherry tomatoes until they almost burst, and folding in basil and mozzarella until the whole pan feels like sunshine.
By evening, the kitchen will shift from soft herbs and eggs to sizzling steak. I’ll freeze the meat just long enough to slice it thin, sear it in a cast iron, and melt provolone right into the pile before tucking it into toasted rolls. A Philly cheesesteak may not be glamorous, but it’s honest, comforting, and just messy enough to feel like city life on a plate.

Somewhere between the two, I’ll steal the last of the confetti sugar cookie sandwiches, sprinkles pressed into the frosting like a reminder that joy belongs in the small things.

And it makes me wonder
maybe what we’re really craving isn’t just eggs or steak or cookies, but the way food tells us where we’ve been and where we’re going. Breakfast from LA, dinner from Philly, dessert from childhood — one day’s menu, a whole map of memory.

The day will begin with something quick and light, a protein shake swirling with fruit and ice, more fuel than feast. But dinner will be where the story lingers. A friend is coming over, and I will stir a pot of jambalaya, letting the spices fill the kitchen with warmth before the first bite is ever taken.

There is something about feeding a friend that feels both ordinary and extraordinary. The rice will soften, the sausage will sizzle, and conversation will rise and fall like the rhythm of the simmering pot. By the time confetti sugar cookie sandwiches appear, it will not matter if the meal was simple. What will matter is the table we shared.

And I cannot help but think, maybe friendship is a lot like jambalaya. A mix of what we have, a little messy, a little spicy, but somehow it comes together into something deeply satisfying.

The week will begin not with something new, but with what remains. Leftover biscuits and gravy will reheat into a quiet kind of comfort, proof that some foods carry their goodness even after the first serving. I will sip coffee beside them, letting the morning unfold at its own pace.

By dinner, the table will welcome Greek pasta salad, still bright with olives and feta, alongside naan bread ready to be torn and shared. The flavors will speak of both simplicity and abundance, reminding me that a meal does not need to be elaborate to feel like a feast.

I cannot help but think Mondays are not meant to impress, but to ground us. To whisper, “Here you are, back at the beginning.” And sometimes the best way to start again is not with the brand-new, but with the familiar, reheated and still full of grace.
