What if the best passport isn’t tucked in your bag but baked right in your oven? Last week, travel came in the form of little golden pockets, warm and savory, with a salad bright enough to taste like sunshine on a plate. Inspired by Julie & Julia, I’m cooking my way through Magnolia Table Volumes 1, 2, and 3. I’m calling it The Jeanie Jo & Joanna Project. Recipe 56 and 57 of 457 are Jo’s Fatayar and Lebanese Salad—and here’s how they turned out. The fatayar, stuffed with spiced beef, came out of the oven with a flaky shell that gave way to comfort in every bite. The Lebanese salad was crisp, tangy, and alive with lemon, cucumber, and tomato, balancing richness with brightness. Together, they felt like dinner and a story, reminding me that the table can take you places even when your suitcase stays put.
