The budget bathroom makeover because I couldn’t stand another day of builder basic.

Here’s everything we did to transform our primary bathroom for under $1,500 — without ripping anything out.

Box moulding, new sconces, a substantial mirror, upgraded vanity hardware, and a few other little details made this bathroom feel SO much more custom and designer.

And we’re not even done yet…

Hear me out, ditch the little bath mats and go bigger.

Rugs ground a room, add warmth, and make a space feel SO much more intentional — and yes, that applies to bathrooms too.

A few bathroom rug tips:
• Try a larger rug instead of multiple small bath mats
• A runner in front of a vanity is such an easy way to add softness + visual interest
• Look for something washable + water-friendly for real-life bathrooms
• Anti-skid backing = a must 🙌🏼
• Don’t be afraid to let the rug take up more space — it can actually make the bathroom feel larger

Lighting can literally make or break how your home feels, so here are my 3 rules for choosing lighting that looks intentional 👇🏼

✨ 1. Pick a style + stick with it.
Your lights don’t need to match, but they should feel like they belong together. I love a traditional + modern mix, so I lean more modern with my lighting to keep everything cohesive.

✨ 2. Get the scale + height right.
For a light fixture over a table, island, or other surface, aim for the fixture to be about 2/3 the width of the surface underneath it. For pendants over an island or table, a good rule of thumb is 30–36 inches from the surface to the bottom of the fixture. These little measurements make SUCH a difference in making a room feel balanced.

✨ 3. Layer your lighting.
Don’t rely on one overhead light to do all the work! Mix ambient, task + accent lighting — think chandeliers or pendants, lamps, sconces and even picture lights. Layering your lighting makes a room feel warmer, more elevated and so much more intentional.
