1. Notice what you reach for on your most confident days.

The outfit you put on when you feel most like yourself and get clear on what it is that makes you feel great in it. Is it the belt that always gives you compliments? The color or silhouette being flattering? Is it the fabric?

Put each of these pieces on an individual clothing rack or section in your closet and these are the hero items that you reach for when you get dressed. It’s like a capsule wardrobe but less boring because it’s about what you feel best in not a sea of neutral tops

2. Go to the tailor. If you fell in love with the print or neckline of a midi dress and that’s why you bought it, but don’t wear it because you hate a midi dress, turn it into a mini!

3. The thing in your closet that excites you but you never wear it because you don’t know if you can pull it off?? Tomorrow your challenge is to get a little un comfy and wear it out of the house anyway. You might end up being obsessed with it on you!

Part 1 of a series I’m calling “launch your next era at 36” and we’re starting here because I think this is the part everyone gets wrong firs when it comes to not forcing things to happen, but still getting to where you want to be. 🤍

We treat getting from point A to point B like it’s a straight line you can will into existence if you just push hard enough.

Force the job. Force the relationship. Force the timeline. As long as we get to B we’ll be happy and fulfilled and we can check it off the list.

And then think about how many times we get there and realize oof I should not have forced that to happen.

It then starts to feel like a failure and then you’re right back where you started of feeling behind.

Here’s what I’ve learned: the in-between point can be more fulfilling than forcing the final destination.

The middle point is usually the thing that pops up that’s unexpected, that for a second you want to say no to because it’s not “the exact vision.”

It’s not new news to say don’t force things that don’t need to be forced, but it also doesn’t mean accept “it is what it is”
The in-between only works if you don’t settle with what that is. It doesn’t have to be the ultimate dream. It just has to be a REAL upgrade from where you are right now, not a smaller, safer version of point A that you’re calling progress because it’s easier than admitting you stalled.

This distinction is everything. One version moves you forward. The other just relocates you.

So before you force anything, ask if there’s a real in-between you’ve been tempted to skip.

Becoming unrecognizable” in 6 months isn’t about a dramatic overhaul like a new city, new job, new everything. Instead it’s about transforming your day-to-day life into one that lights you up and feels new and interesting.
It has serendipity in it. This is what keeps us from feeling in a rut.
Here’s the thing about serendipity though. It’s not random luck that happens to lucky people. It’s a byproduct of being open.

And as you’re cringing knowing what I’m about to say, yes, it means small talk.

Six months of slowing down enough to notice and saying hi when you’d normally stay quiet, which add up to a completely different life. That’s the unrecognizable part.

June gloom reset: If you’re feeling behind this summer, this is the reminder that helped me.

Behind only exists if there’s a map you’re supposed to be on. And while all your best friends might have similar maps, it doesn’t mean that it was meant to be yours too.

I was lucky I never had pressure from my parents on what timelines are supposed to look like, but that meant that I often looked at what my friends were doing to make sure I was stying on track or doing the right thing…but then in my late 20s that suddenly meant that I was feeling behind and not on track….but I was following a road map that wasn’t meant to be mine.

The second I stopped trying to hit checkpoints every year on what my life was supposed to look like and how it wasn’t, the panic lessened.

Every year I see so many reasons why it makes sense that things have played out the way they have. Some things still don’t, but that’s not a problem to solve for today.

All I know is the panic of falling behind has dissipated the older I get, not gotten stronger and that’s a relief.

There’s no pace to keep. there’s no one ahead of you. there’s just you, which is the only way life was ever going to happen anyway.

SO many women in their 30s think casual chic means beige, white + black on repeat so I’m hoping this reaches whoever needs to hear it.

This is your sign to STOP letting “neutral only” be your association with chic.

Casual chic is about ease + intention, not a color palette and truthfully I think a pop of color is what is going to transform any outfit if it hints at your sense of personal style.

The color isn’t the problem, how something fits and is tailored + the styling is what makes it chic.
