Earlier this week I shared a few analog hobbies that have stuck with me over time. I wanted to pass a few of them along for you to enjoy, too. This week’s Curio is for everyone who is a little tired of screens — which I suspect is all of us. Think slow hands, satisfying textures, and the particular pleasure of making something that exists in the physical world.

A film camera for capturing moments the unhurried way, a sweet lace camera strap because even the tools should be beautiful, and a sourdough beginner kit for the weekends when you actually want to be in the kitchen and the starter I used.

A needlepoint kit from Chappywrap that is more meditative than it sounds, a tabletop easel that earns the word cottage, and a travel watercolor set that would make the most perfect gift. And then there is this letter-writing set — because I have been thinking lately about how much I miss the anticipation of waiting for a letter. Not an email. A letter. One that someone touched, folded, and sent on purpose.

☘️ Today’s Curio is inspired by St. Patrick’s Day next month and my love of all things Irish. We visited Ireland nine years ago and I still think about it all the time. Until I make it back, I’m bringing little pieces of the Emerald Isle into my home and life.

This autumn, I made a few cozy swaps to refresh the space. Mack surprised me with the cream-and-gold espresso machine for my birthday (I still can’t stop admiring it!), and over the weekend he hung the mug rail that looks like it’s always belonged there. I mixed in some green mugs with my classic Farmhouse Pottery ones to bring in a fresh color for the season. Now, every morning feels a little more beautiful, with a reminder to slow down and savor small joys.
A couple of other tips from the coffee station that you can save if you're renovating or redecorating:
🍁 A clear silicone mat protects our marble countertops from drips and spills, but it's nearly invisible.
🍁 When we renovated our kitchen, I had a hot water faucet installed for quick Americanos and tea. A plug-in kettle works great as well!
🍁 The picture light provides a soft glow so that I can avoid the "big lights" first thing in the morning. There are cordless options available now as well!
