Teasing 101 ✨ Fine-Hair Volume Tutorial

If your hair falls flat after teasing, the technique matters.

For this look, I used:

* A rat-tail comb for controlled teasing
* Color Wow Texas Hold’Em hairspray to lock in the tease
* A little time to let it set
* More hairspray to finish and hold everything in place

The key is controlled teasing instead of randomly backcombing the hair, then smoothing the surface once the volume is set.

This Walmart find checks the boxes: a rich fall color, lightweight enough for warmer weather, and shorts built right underneath. And at 5’0, it hits above the knee without needing to be hemmed. Five Foot Approved ✔️

I paired it with wedges here, but honestly, this is the kind of dress that can easily go casual or dressier depending on the shoes.

How to Get the Perfect Face-Framing Curls on Short Hair

If your face-framing pieces never seem to fall quite right, this simple curling technique makes all the difference. I use a small curling iron, set each curl with clips while it cools, then finish with a lightweight texture spray for soft movement and lasting volume.

This Target A New Day smocked mini A-line dress is petite approved and such an easy piece for transitioning from summer into fall. The smocked bodice gives it a little shape, it has POCKETS (always a win), and the mini length works especially well on my 5’0 frame.

I added a Chanel-inspired jacket for a little structure, my pointy-toe Mark Fisher booties to help elongate the legs, and my Kate Spade taupe bag to keep the look from feeling too dark.
