Easy peasy ways to make your room look bigger include:
🪄 Mirrors. Place them across from a window if you can. The light bounces, the room doubles. One large mirror does more than a gallery wall of small ones. Every time.
🪄 Curtains hung high and wide. The rod goes near the ceiling, not the window frame. And the panels extend past the window on both sides. It makes the window look bigger, the ceiling look higher, and the whole room feel intentional.
🪄 Rug size. If your rug is too small, your room looks smaller. All furniture legs on the rug, or at minimum the front legs. A rug that floats in the middle of a room with nothing touching it is the enemy.
None of these require a contractor. Just a measuring tape and a little shopping trip.

✦ Add window treatments. Floor to ceiling if you can. It makes the ceilings look higher and the whole room look finished.

✦ Layer your textiles. Throw pillows and a blanket on the couch = instant warmth. Don’t overthink it.

✦ Kill the overhead lighting. You know when the “ugly lights” that come up at 2 am after a night out in your 20s… well today’s ugly lights are the overhead lights.. so we’re keeping the off. Done. Never again.

✦ Add lamps, sconces, or candles anywhere you can.

THE RUG SIZE GUIDE YOU ACTUALLY NEEDED

okay I am saving you from the most common decorating mistake I see (and have made myself, multiple times, no shame).

Living Room
Your rug should fit ALL front legs of your sofa + chairs on it. If you can only fit a coffee table on it… it’s too small. As a general rule: 8x10 for most living rooms, 9x12 for larger sectional situations.

Bedroom
Go bigger than you think. You’ll regret it. You want an 8x10 minimum so when you step out of bed, you land on rug, not cold floor. The rug should extend at least 18–24” on each side of the bed.

Kitchen Runner
Should run the length of your counter area

Entryway
Wider than your door. At minimum. Nothing sadder than a tiny square mat in a big entryway. 3x5 is usually the starting point.

Dining Room
The rug needs to be big enough that chairs stay ON it even when pulled out. 8x10 for a 4-person table, 9x12 for a 6-person. If your chairs slide off the edge every time someone sits down… you know what to do.

Save this for the next time you’re rug shopping 🖤 and send it to someone who just moved, they’ll need it!

honest review: the ambiance is a full 20/10. Like you ever say no to grabbing a drink on your favourite patio kind of ambiance.

The heat output 2/10 - I honestly thought it would be better. You have to sit SO close to get any warmth from it

Starting the fire 0/10. I smelled like a camp fire after. Maybe I did it wrong - open to feedback.

But seriously, I kind of think the ambiance is worth the starting it issues 🙈.

We’re working overtime and solving more than one problem here. No more saggy duvets. And holy crap doesn’t this look like a fluffy cloud? Almost like I have two inserts in my duvet.

20/10 recommend. It didn’t budge last night. It’s still as fluffy as ever.

I did a 120”x120” insert for my king bed. Any bigger and I almost think it would get bunchy and annoying. But anything is possibly until you try.

Shelf styling made easy-ish.

Truthfully I think shelves are one of the hardest things to style so first and foremost, give yourself some grace.

Adding a few extra tidbits for you:

- start with a colour palette - pick 2-3 colours and repeat them. It’s what makes everything feel intentional instead of random

- go big, not many - a few oversized pieces beat a bunch of small ones every time. too many little
items = visual clutter

- vary your heights - mix tall, medium, and short. stack books horizontally to create a riser for smaller pieces

- layer in texture - wood, glass, woven, ceramic. the mix is what makes it look expensive

- lean art at the back - propping a frame behind your accessories adds depth without any extra effort

- edit ruthlessly - if it looks just as good with less, go with less. breathing room is part of the design.
