My hollow back was not happening this practice. Even though my spine is quite flexible I am super careful because A) it’s my spine and B) depending on many factors (like hormones, soreness, energy levels) I might not be as flexible and I don’t want to push it.

Anyway! Still liked this handstand combination.

This is how I approach recovery and pain management as a hypermobile athlete. Nothing too complex, just tried and true methods that work for me.

I’ve done weekly epsom salt baths for years. They soothe muscle aches and generally relaxes me.

Compression boots. These are on the pricier side but there are more affordable options available online. These help with circulation and honestly nothing better than these after a leg day or a run.

What can I say that hasn’t already been said 10000000000x infinity times? I try to get enough protein and greens. I could probably be a little more strict actually but that’s okay.

I regret not taking creatine sooner. It’s helped me to be able to push a little harder in the gym and I do notice I have more energy since starting it. I started because I saw it is recommended for hypermobile people.

I need a loooot of sleep. If I don’t get 9-10 hours I’m having a subpar day. It’s crazy the amount of work your body does to heal you while you sleep.

Electrolytes are helpful for athletes in general but I especially like them to help manage some symptoms associated with my hypermobility.

In the top picture I am tying my legs together to sit and do work because my hips never feel stable and I sit in weird ways that end up causing pain.

Bottom photo is me holding a lacrosse ball. I use the lacrosse ball to roll out my muscles which always feel like they have knots in them. Helps my body relax.

This week I’m trying out my new training schedule. I’m switching things up a bit and adding in a full upper body lifting day instead of a push, pull, legs style of training. So, I’ve got 2 upper days. One is a lifting day and the other is a calisthenics conditioning day. Looking forward to seeing how this goes for me :)

I don’t do a slick back that often anymore because 1) I don’t want to mess up my hairline more than it already is lmao and 2) I do get pretty gnarly headaches when my hair is up. BUT when I do them this is what I do. The gel and the brush are the most important things for me. Mind you, I also have bangs now and they stayed down the whole day like this. The detangler in the beginning is just cause I had some knots lol.

Everyone’s hair texture is different so some might need more or less product and maneuvering with the brush etc. but this is what I do. At some point I was also putting in a hair mask and oil but I genuinely didn’t find that much benefit for me so I stopped.

One arm handstand is getting closer i can feel it lmaoo. I AM soliciting advice btw if you have your OAHS please give me your best tips. Calisthenics is so humbling but most people stop practicing it after a bit because it takes TIME and CONSISTENCY to make the smallest progress sometimes so you have to love the process just as much as you love the outcome. And don’t stop doing drills - EVER.

grwm for a leg day. i didn’t have a lot of energy yesterday but i’m glad i got it done anyway. learning to listen to your body and know when it’s safe to push and when it isn’t is SO important and it’s taken some lessons learned the hard way for me. yesterday was one of those days where it was okay to push (a little) so I tried a new hairstyle, put on a cute fit and got my preworkout and smashed the workout.
