It’s officially time for spring break ❤️ aka playing catch up on all the blog things (and some teaching things)… and wedding things… and relaxing things… This year has been really, really hard and i’m constantly in survival mode. And as much as I wish I could say it’s because it’s my first year back after 1.5 years out on PTSD leave, I can’t. I can say teaching is the hardest job in the entire world. It comes in waves but the last two month feel like I’ve been in the middle of a tidal. Thankfully cute sweaters help get me through the hard days ❤️ hope you all are holding in there 💕

Tomorrow. Tomorrow is finally Friday ❤️ This week was harder than most in almost every aspect of the job and life. On Friday’s though— every single Friday… no matter how bananas the week was (and this week was BANANAS🍌), my team, my class, and I have a slow start to the day, and eat “breakfast” together. Sometimes they want to play games on their computer, or connect 4, or talk so fast with excitement about something none of the adults have ever heard of and I can’t even make sense of what words are leaving their mouth, but we’re bonding. We are together, enjoying the simple things for some and the most needed things for others, acceptance. Acceptance that life is hard and the week felt like it would never end, but at the end of the week, we still belong, we learned something, and we still matter… no matter what has happened… and what most likely will happen next week. Teamwork really does make the dream work. Happy Friday’s Eve ❤️ I hope you all have an incredible day tomorrow.

This is what being invisibly disabled looks like. If you were to walk into my classroom during my lunch today, this is what you would have seen. What’s invisible is the inner chaos of my brain. You can’t see me mentally sorting through PTSD triggers and trying to decide which strategy to use. You can’t see that when I begin to feel triggered, my ADHD-inattentive symptoms triple in severity… but when someone walks in, it breaks my thought cycle and I oddly can refocus, kind of. I’m not one to fake it till you make it and there is no hoax in this picture. I’m not trying to mask away anything with what I wear, doing my hair and makeup, or even smiling. It might look like I’m fine, but I’m still struggling… and I can still find joy within the struggle. We are all different and for me this is what being invisibly disabled looks like around 355 days a year. It’s invisible but it’s still there ❤️

Today I was given the best gift from my class— they chose self-love for themselves, their learning, and each other ❤️ We actually got through every single thing on our schedule… without any destruction, objects flying, strong right hooks, or mountain top voice levels. I didn’t receive a single Valentine’s Day card or physical gift and typically haven’t in the teaching roles I’ve had. Just wanted to share a little reminder that what is meaningful to one person doesn’t hold the same meaning to another. Meaning, in all things, is unique based on our experiences, as it is with our students, unique. And love… while unique can be found every where if we choose to find it ❤️ Happy Valentine’s Day 💕 P.S this book freakin ROCKS. #teacherlife
