One year ago, I had the right lobe of my thyroid removed after being diagnosed with papillary thyroid cancer.

I wish I could say healing was quick or straightforward. It wasn’t. There were months of exhaustion, fear, hormone adjustments, and learning how to live in a body that suddenly felt unfamiliar and painful.

But healing didn’t arrive in one dramatic moment. It happened quietly — in ordinary days returning. In mornings that felt lighter. In laughter that came back naturally. In realizing I was no longer just in autopilot and getting through it.

Today, I’m not the same person I was before surgery. In many ways, I’m softer, braver, more grateful, and more protective of my peace.

If you’re facing thyroid cancer, surgery, or any major health challenge right now — you are not alone. And even if it feels impossibly far away, there is so much joy and peace on the other side.

By day, I’m a Family Nurse Practitioner. I’ve been a nurse for 10 years, beginning my career in the ICU. Caring for people is woven into who I am. It’s an honor I don’t take lightly, and it has shaped how I move through the world. But when I’m not in scrubs, I pour that same love into my home and my family. I’m drawn to estate sales, thrift stores, antiques with stories, and small beginner DIY projects. I love homes that feel layered, meaningful, and imperfect in the most beautiful way — spaces that hold memories, not just things.

My journey with thyroid cancer changed me deeply. It slowed me down, softened me, and taught me to romanticize ordinary days. It was the wake-up call I didn’t know I needed, and I’m grateful to say I’m doing well now.
