I’ve tweaked a lot of things in this room, my family room, over the past eight years and I’m feeling so very, very happy with where it’s landing. The most recent update was the addition of linen pinched pleat curtains, which add so much softness and warmth and depth to the room. I priced out custom curtains but the ones I wound up getting are a stock item and they’re absolutely gorgeous quality for about a fourth the cost of custom! First thing I do every morning is turn the lights on this tree and they don’t go off until I head up to bed at night. It makes me so happy to have twinkling in the background of my days ✨🌲 I used all ornaments I had from past years but added some pale pink ribbon to the tree this year to change it up a little. Ribbon is a great, inexpensive way to alter the look of your Christmas tree year to year without breaking the bank or taking up tons of storage space when the holidays are over. All of our peonies and roses and irises are in full bloom and I’m basically beside myself with happiness. Scott and I built this deck and he designed and constructed the patios on either side a couple years ago and we use these spaces even more than we’d hoped we would. Which makes all the literal blood, sweat, and tears sooooo worth it. I think I only cried once, when a cement mixer toppled over on me after a long day of pouring concrete footings in 100 degree heat. Our pool club opens for the season tomorrow at noon and I am EXCITED, you guys! The weather looks totally gorgeous for the weekend, not warm enough for me to go in the water, but it still makes me so happy to have the pool open 🏊‍♂️ ☀️ By August I am OVER packing a pool bag every day but right now I’m basically euphoric about it, especially when my beach towels are such lookers. I love you more today than yesterday. I am, of course, speaking to the deep green velvet sofa who now lives with me. If possible, it’s even better than I’d hoped (isn’t it a delight when that happens?). It’s soft yet firm, comfortable yet stately, modern yet classic, and the color is TO DIE FOR. Also the price is truly phenomenal for the size (88.6” long) and quality. And if green isn’t your thing, we can’t be friends anymore. Just kidding 😘, the sofa also comes in charcoal grey and a slightly teal-y blue thatvare very beautiful too. Can’t wait to share more of this room with you as it comes together!! Today is a GEM of a day (especially after what feels like a solid month of rain) and it has me feeling extra excited for pool and beach days ahead. I just added these leopard flats to my shoe wardrobe. I’ve had them in red suede for several years and they’re one of my most-worn shoes. The pointed toe makes your legs look longer and they can be dressed up or down. I sized up 1/2 a size for comfort. I also grabbed this sweater on sale recently - can you see the button detail at the cuffs? Totally elevates it a notch above your average cotton spring sweater. The fitted shape is great with my favorite boyfriend jeans (except they’re not actually boyfriend jeans, see the highlight in my Stories for details!). I’ve spent more time this past month working on elementary school projects than I have since...ummm...I was in elementary school I guess? Trying to get everything checked off the list before we head out for spring break! The past two days I was helping my 4th grader with a family immigration project and pulled out a photo of my Italian great-grandparents around the time they got married (swipe left to see it). The story goes that my great-grandfather, Giulio, immigrated to the US, made some money, then went back to his hometown in Italy to fetch his intended wife. But her father said she wasn’t next in line, so Giulio could marry his oldest daughter or else go on his merry way. Alerts about @wayfair’s big Wayday Sale seem like they’re coming at me from every angle. I’m not working with them to promote the sale but I did check it out and 😳😳. There are some GOOD deals, you guys. I ordered this new dining set for my deck (down from $1629 to $384 with free shipping. I mean...what?!? It’s outdoor metal, and I’ve realized after a few years of having outdoor furniture that outdoor wood products just do not last in New England unless you tarp everything at all times when it’s not in use and I‘m just not up for that level of maintenance. I have an outdoor wicker and metal seating set that has lasted beautifully so that’s what I’m sticking with from now on! I accidentally electrocuted myself over the weekend while replacing the switches and outlets in my daughter’s bedroom. Not badly, I’m totally fine, but it feels kind of awful when it happens! ⚡️ I might just shut power to the whole house to finish the job today.
