My rule of thumb for styling our open kitchen shelves is to use everyday, functional items like mixing bowls, pinch bowls, trivets, and colander on the lower self and less used and decorative items like large measuring cups, biscuit cutters, recipe books, deviled egg trays, and baking ingredients on the top self.
