When this mom reached out, she was ready to start toy rotation.

I said nope.

Toy rotation is a scam. It’s designed to make parents feel like they’re not doing enough.

You and your husband both work full time. Toy rotation is one more job nobody has time for, and it quietly turns into a closet full of bins you never get to.

That’s not a system, that’s homework.

So we did the opposite.

We designed a Montessori-inspired room their boys can actually grow into.

And yes, they had double of everything, because hello, twins!

This exact top was in a reel last week. And here it is again, no notes, no apologies.

Somewhere we all decided rewearing something was a crime. That you need a new fit for every dinner, every trip, every time your photo gets taken for social media.

So we buy it, wear it once, let it hang in the closet, and then stand there saying “I have nothing to wear.”

How crazy is this? Why do we do this to ourselves as women? Men wear the same exact suit to every wedding and no one bats an eye.

Listen to me. Nobody remembers what you wore. And if they’re keeping tabs, well, let them see what great style you have 😜

So I’m rewearing the good stuff till it gives out. It was cute the first time, it’s cute the fourth.

This is the type of rug that fits lots of design styles, so I knew it’d balance out all the orange and grow up right alongside him. The Knicks aren’t going anywhere and neither is this rug.

But in all seriousness, basements are HARD. It’s where everything you don’t want to deal with ends up.

BUT

🧺 You have to go down there to do laundry.
🚽 You have to go down there to get the extra toilet paper.
😫 You have to go down there to find the one thing you KNOW you have but cannot find.

This sweet family just welcomed home their new baby and we got their basement all the way together.

Because less stressed parents = happy parents.

We can help with the organizing. Making sure they sleep through the night?

Organizing a home with ADHD looks completely different.

And most organizers get it wrong.
The friction has to go.

All of it. If a system requires too many decisions, it won’t happen.

If it has too many steps, it won’t happen. The bar for “simple” is way lower than you think.

This basement needed to be a laundry room, backup pantry, hangout space, and eventually a home office. Every single system we built had to work without thinking about it.

I need you to understand that this is a real, legitimate heartbreak I carry.

I still remember the first time I saw The Bodyguard as a kid. I was awestruck with this woman and what came out of her mouth. I had never heard anything like it and I knew right then that nothing would ever be the same.

And it wasn’t.

To this day I will never skip a Whitney song. Not one.

That’s what she did. That’s what she still does.

And knowing I will never get to be in that room when she opened her mouth and the whole building stopped breathing?

It makes me incredibly sad!

One of my favorite projects is a little girl’s room transformation. I didn’t have my own room until I was in high school, so every time we work in a girl’s space something in my inner child heals a little.

This family is starting a big renovation later this year, but they didn’t want to wait to give their 9-year-old daughter a room she could grow into. Her little brother is still sharing the room for now, so we tucked his bed to the side to encourage him to move into his own room soon. And it worked! Because his room is next!

We started with a mood board and budget spreadsheet, then tackled everything on Project Day™. Lots of editing, moving and assembling furniture (I was still sore for 3 days after 😂), layering pieces so the room felt finished instead of cluttered, and creating simple systems she can actually maintain herself.

Same square footage. Same kid. Completely different room.

We’re not disorganized. We’re too optimistic.

We shop for the week we think we’re going to have. The meals we think we’re going to cook. The version of us that suddenly has time and energy and wants to try a new sauce on a Tuesday.

And then we end up making the same five dinners.

When I organize pantries, the amount of expired food we toss is wild. Not because people are messy. Because people buy with good intentions.

You don’t need more space. You need to organize for the life you actually live.

Less fantasy. Better systems. Better life.
