HOW TO SEE THEATRE ONLINE:
Yesterday, the Broadway League announced that all Broadway shows will stay closed until at least Jan. 3, 2021.
Story time: I moved to NYC fresh out of college with my BFA in Theatre Performance. Becoming an NYC tour guide and LOVING IT was a happy accident. Since I saw my first Broadway show in 2011, I've had the joy and thrill of seeing a Broadway production every year. Except, now for 2020.
However, there are still plenty of ways to see world-class performances from home:
✨The Great Performances series on PBS shows full productions of plays, musicals, operas, and concerts
✨Netflix has its own library of recorded Broadway musicals and plays
✨Prime Video has some great recorded Shakespeare plays to stream with your subscription
✨BroadwayHD is an entire streaming service dedicated to the best, professionally recorded, theatre productions. You can subscribe through its website or add it to your Prime Video
✨Disney+ is where you can find Newsies and Hamilton (coming July 3rd)
✨If you want to find individual song performances or full productions, search on YouTube to see what user-generated content is up. While you might find illegal recordings of shows (called bootlegs) you'll also find full, legal pro-shot recordings as well!
✨Shakespeare's Globe Theater has a selection of their recorded performances available to watch on their website for free
✨The Metropolitan Opera is showing a different production from its catalog each day on its website
What will you be watching?!
