✈️💄 TRAVEL BEAUTY FAILS… and a few Wins 💄✈️

After 10+ years of full-time travel and 500+ flights, I should have beauty packing down to a science... right? WRONG. 😅 No matter how many trips I take, I still manage to make some beauty blunders along the way, and I know I’m not the only one!

Here are a few of my most recent travel beauty fails (and the hero products that saved the day):

⚡️Flat Iron Fail in Tokyo: Brought the wrong straightener (even though it was dual voltage!), and it didn’t work anywhere. Frizz city. 🙃 From now on, I’m only traveling with my T3 flat iron.

❄️ My Skin vs. Winter: No Contest: My dry skin did not survive a Japanese winter. Enter: First Aid Beauty. I’m testing it now and hoping it’s the solution I need.

🧼 Forgot My Makeup Wipes: Had flawless makeup for LTKCon... but no way to take it off. Thankfully, I remembered my reusable Body Shop wipes from a past travel fest tote bag 🙌

💍 Forgot Jewelry (Again): Outfits on point. Accessories? Nowhere to be found. I really need a proper travel jewelry organizer…

🧳 Toiletry Bag Zipper Disaster: Found a cute bag at a discount store, only for the zipper to break on day one. Pro tip: bad zippers ruin great trips. That’s why I only use YKK zippers in my Compass Rose Packing Cubes!

✨ BUT it isn’t all fails…

✅ WIN: Flat toiletry containers from Kitsch + Ms. Jetsetter. I’ll never go back to bulky bottles. Flat = freedom.

❄️ What I Packed for Winter in Tokyo (And What I’d Do Differently!)

Packing for cold weather is always a challenge, but add Tokyo’s stylish streets and the needs of a family, and it gets even trickier.

We spent the first week of January in Tokyo during a last-minute 3.5-month RTW trip. I had just 4 days to pack! Some things worked great, others not so much.

🧳 I checked a Samsonite 24” suitcase, brought a laptop backpack as a carry-on, and used my Rebecca Minkoff Julian Backpack as my personal item.

👚 The outfit that was on repeat: Columbia jacket, Zara long-sleeve, H&M jeans, Golden Goose sneakers, UNIQLO thermals, and a Zara leather cap.

🧥 I relied on the Columbia Carson Pass II Jacket, hands down the best winter jacket I’ve ever used. Waterproof, warm, and keeps me dry.

🧦 Layering Essentials are an absolute must for cold weather travel: thermals + merino wool sweaters + waterproof jacket + hat + scarf + gloves.

👟 Brought sneakers + leather boots, but should’ve packed just 1. Winter boots took up too much room for only one week of cold weather on a long trip.

🧴 Tokyo’s dry air wrecked my skin. I should’ve brought a heavier moisturizer + lip balm. A small fix with a big impact!

📦 Packing Mishaps:

Compression bag lost its compression ability mid-trip

Brought unnecessary long sleeves instead of extra thermals

Wish I had a packable duffel for overflow after shopping 🛍️

✨ Style vs Function:
TeamLab was incredible, but I wish I’d packed something stylish for photos. Instead, I prioritized warmth and while my body was thankful, my IG feed wasn’t. 😂

If you’re packing for Tokyo in winter (or any cold-weather city), focus on layers, waterproof outerwear, and skincare. You can travel light and stay warm—you just need the right pieces.
