* the “leftover” cabinet hardware from when my parents built our family home

This little corner gets rearranged and revamped often throughout the year to showcase some of my favorite things, but it always tells the story of how I have been loved and cared for.

Some heirlooms aren’t originally family pieces. They’re chosen…piece by piece, with love.

My grandmother started collecting these Homer Laughlin Majestic Brittany plates for me long before I was old enough to appreciate them. She accumulated quite a lot for me! She probably imagined me using them at my wedding, setting a table for a new chapter, the way women before me had done with their fine china.

But life unfolded differently. And I truly love the life I have.

So instead of waiting for a traditional occasion, I gave them a place where I see them every day. Some on a gallery wall in my dining room, others mixed in with my mom’s Kings Crown Ruby and my grandmother’s Haviland Apple Blossom.

Oh, and the pattern? She picked it just for me…her “Brittany.”

I think it’s time I set a big banquet table with them and throw a shindig, celebrating the life I have.

The biggest lesson I’ve learned about living well at home is this: rituals matter. Not as a means to an end, but as a way of paying attention to the life we’re living right now.

Rituals aren’t about making life look pretty or perfect. They simply help us *experience* it more fully and more beautifully.

As Alexandra Stoddard so beautifully wrote: “Rituals and details are not ends but steppingstones, tools to aid us in the enjoyment of the actual process of living as fully and creatively as we possibly can.”

I’ve learned that when I honor the current season and choose not rush past it, my home becomes a place of dignity, vitality, and joy.

Lighting the candle because it makes things look cozier. Using my “good dishes” for a regular weeknight meal because today is worth celebrating.
Really, just letting small habits reinforce what I value most.

 If I had to pick a favorite from the Thanksgiving Tablescape series, this might be it. There’s just something about green, amber, and candlelight that feels like Thanksgiving to me.

This table layers sentimental pieces from the women who came before me… Grannie’s Johnson Brothers Friendly Village dishes, Mema’s turkey figurines, and Mama’s gold-rimmed glassware. These pieces share the spotlight alongside my own favorites: a green block print tablecloth, Bordallo Pinheiro lemon leaf chargers, and woven placemats.

The centerpiece is a magnolia wreath framing a stone fruit topiary from @willowandpearls. The perfect mix of classic and Southern. Add in a glow from the candles, and it’s everything I love about this season: memory, warmth, and gratitude gathered around the table.

My nephews and niece (and their parents and grandparents) came over to celebrate my birthday this weekend, and I wanted to have a little bit of spooky season fun for the kids! I set up a pumpkin painting station along with a candy charcuterie board – with most of the items coming from Target! Such a fun way to celebrate the season with Littles!
