💛Black girl’s guide to a 3 Day Sahara Trip. I’ve been wanting to put together a to-do list for a while, so hopefully my experience can help someone who is planning their own trip.

Some advice for the self-planners:
• Skip hiring a planner, you can self book any trip via @getyourguide
• Wear protective styles, don’t risk sun damage (especially under direct sun and wind). If your hair is not already in a protective style, @martine_conde does braids in Marrakech!
• Bring snacks and water (fruits especially). Grocery stores in Marrakech are great.
• Bring a portable electric fan (I got mine on Amazon).
• Bring tinted sunscreen or a tinted mineral sunscreen. My favorite is @saiebeauty and Elta MD.
• Doux Mousse Def Texture Foam & Neatbraid Gel is LIFE
• Bring cargo pants and a fanny pack.
• Buy a head scarf in Marrakech Medina (more variety)
• Book ATVs. They’re way more comfortable and fun.
• You WILL FEEL that hour long camel ride.
• Skip the cafeterias; eat at small local businesses.
• Tell Moha and Fatima I said hello!
• Dirham is king, do not expect to pay with card.
• Don’t forget sanitizer, first aid supplies, and bug spray.
• If you can’t finish your fruit, save it for the camels.
• Bring portable chargers and charging adapters.
• Do not be rude about electricity or AC. A lot of small towns rely on solar energy and will provide power towards the evening. Bring a portable charger or fan if you need it.

Photography tips:
• If you’re planning on shooting photos, don’t bother with a tripod unless shooting astrophotography. There will be plenty of people to meet and plus it’s very windy.
• I traveled with my camera in a sealed fanny pack whenever not in use. Wind and sand can hurt your lens, so protect it.

A quick review of my hot air balloon experience in Morocco 🇲🇦 Booked via @getyourguide

Tfw I’ll never be 6k miles from home, solo in my 20’s riding my first hot air balloon 😭💛

Y’all already know if there’s a way to cut out the middleman when planning my trips, I’m gonna do it. I linked the EXACT booking I did in my Linktree, so if anyone is planning their own trip to Morocco, you now have a recommendation.

For the hot air balloons, we booked it ourselves through @getyourguide. I think we started at 7 AM with pickup from Marrakesh (nearest to our hotel), and the experience included snacks beforehand, the hot air balloon ride, round-trip transportation, a traditional Berber breakfast, and camel rides! We decided to go with this one because it had the extra activities and breakfast, unlike other trips.

DO pack some treats for yourself, this will take about 4 hours total. DO wear sunscreen. DO leave your bags at home unless you’re carrying a camera (like me). DO use the bathroom before the camel rides. DO not wear flip flops. DO not wear short skirts.

I’ll be sharing more about why this resort is a must visit when visiting Marrakech, but I can already say it was one of the most peaceful and grounding parts of my trip. If you’re planning to stay, definitely email to book a few weeks in advance. And even if you can’t book your dates, I highly recomend still visiting!

🇲🇦 By the end of my stay in the Marrakesh Medina, I had 1 purse, 2 poufs, 2 pillows, perfumes, 2 cups, 3 magnets, 1 painting, and 1 scarf lol. I came to Morocco ready with an almost empty checked bag.

Other popular tourist souvenirs include jewelry, rugs, leather, dresses, dishes, tea sets, etc, but you can find almost anything inside the Medina. Plan to spend 2 to 3 days if you want enough time to shop deep and get familiar with the market.

Keep in mind that very few things are sold at a fixed price. A good rule of thumb is to start negotiating at about 30-40% of the asking price, compare offers between shops, and remember that market prices can also vary by city, such as in Fez or Chefchaouen.
