I know I say this all the time, but if you want a more functional + organized home that actually makes your day-to-day easier, start with the high-traffic areas first.

Think: the spaces by the door and the main living areas—the places your family is constantly moving through.

And the biggest thing? Stay on top of these spaces a little at a time so they don’t get to that point of no return where organizing them feels like an entire weekend project. 😅

A few things that have made our entryway/mudroom work better with three kids + busy schedules:

• Give everything a designated home. Coats, sweatshirts, backpacks and shoes should each have a spot—and whenever possible, make it accessible enough that the kids can put things away themselves.

• Use your vertical space. Save the harder-to-reach storage for things you don’t grab every day: rain gear, off-season accessories, specialty items, etc.

• Have one bin or bag ready for each activity. Soccer, swim, dance—whatever your family is running to. Keeping the gear together makes getting out the door SO much easier.

• Use more aesthetic baskets or closed storage where you can. Not everything needs to be visible! Baskets, cabinets and drawers help keep the space feeling calmer, especially when it’s part of your main living area.

• No mudroom? You can still create one. A dresser, wardrobe, cabinet or other closed-storage piece near your main entrance can function like a mudroom—even if your home doesn’t have a designated entryway or coat closet.

• Rotate with the seasons. If you live somewhere with four very different seasons, you probably don’t need everything living in your entryway year-round. Move truly off-season items somewhere else to reduce clutter.

• Remove things as kids outgrow them. Don’t wait for a giant seasonal purge. When you notice something doesn’t fit, pull it out then and there.

The goal isn’t a perfectly organized entryway. It’s creating a space that helps your family get out the door and back in again with a little less chaos. 🤍

Back to school prep, but make it one small space at a time. 👟✨

Today’s challenge: reset the shoe cabinet + get everyone’s shoes ready for school.

Declutter + try everything on
Clean out + vacuum the cabinet
Shop for any shoes you’re missing
Spray + protect new shoes
Label kids’ shoes for school
Try the toddler sticker hack — cut a sticker in half and place one half in each shoe so they know which shoe goes on which foot 🙌
Create a drop zone so everyday shoes are easy to grab AND easy for kids to put away.

Our shoe cabinet is custom, but you absolutely do not need custom storage to create this system. You can find hidden shoe storage cabinets online (I’ll link some of my favorites!) or use any cabinet with doors and add bins or baskets inside.

This took less than 25minutes (and dad took them shoe shopping… can you tell? 😆)
Just one more little system set up now to make school mornings run a little smoother. ✔️

What an upgrade 🙌🏼 These wire shelf toppers made such a difference in this closet—and they were SO easy to put together. They just rest right on top of the existing wire shelves and instantly make the whole space feel more finished.

While I was in here, I swapped out his felt baby hangers and bought the same hangers we use in my girls’ room. One small thing that makes laundry day easier: everyone has the same hangers. No sorting or figuring out which ones go where.

I also went through the outgrown clothes to pass along to my sister’s baby and reset the hand-me-down system I keep in this closet.

For each girl, I keep three bins:

TOO BIG — hand-me-downs they’ll grow into
TOO SMALL — ready to pass along or move out
OUT OF SEASON — things we’ll need again later

Eventually, some of it gets moved to our basement storage, but these bins give me a place for quick sorting as we go.

Because kids grow SO fast 🥹 and I’d much rather pull out one too-small shirt when I notice it than do a massive closet purge every few months.

Simple systems that make it easier to keep up. 🙌🏼

Do I miss the hangers?
Not at all. Hooks are WAY more functional for our lifestyle, especially with three kids coming and going.

Where do you hang/store extra coats?
This space is only for the items we’re using this season. Anything we aren’t currently reaching for gets rotated into storage.

What’s in the baskets up above?
A little bit of everything we need access to, but not necessarily every day:
• Rain gear
• Accessories + extra jackets
• My husband’s work hats
• Shoe cleaner
• Canvas shopping bags
• Grandma has a basket for her things
• Travel items like baby fans, portable sound machines, etc.

Are the backpacks too heavy for the hooks? Where are the hooks from?
We haven’t had an issue! The hooks are mounted directly into studs. Unfortunately, our exact gold hooks are sold out, but I linked similar options.

What’s in the clear bins above the backpacks?
Checklists, homework and other school papers/items that need to go back into their backpacks.

Reality check: I have three kids, and yes, we have lots of toys and games. 😂

I’ve found that when toys have a designated home close to where they’re actually used, cleanup becomes so much easier and faster.

And although I work, my kids spend the majority of their time at home. I want our home to feel calm and functional without feeling like a showroom.

It started as a way to make life easier, and now it’s one of those little systems that saves us from a hundred tiny questions every week.

Day 2 of the Back-to-School Challenge ✨

One of the simplest ways to make school mornings smoother? Set up one bathroom so your kids can use it as independently as possible.

This is our main level bathroom, and I love that everything they need before heading out the door is right here. It also works so well if you’re trying to maximize a small bathroom!

Here’s what’s in ours:
✔️ Step stool
✔️ Hand towel with a loop + microfiber towel for easy drying
✔️ Lightweight soap that’s easy for little hands to pump
✔️ Toilet seat/cover with a built in flip down potty seat
✔️ Wipes
✔️ Wall-mounted silicone toilet brush (takes up almost no space)
✔️ Electric toothbrushes I genuinely recommend as a mom + dentist
✔️ A portable hair caddy that stores here but can easily move to the kitchen or family room while I’m getting everyone ready
✔️ Organized bins for hair accessories, extra dental supplies, first aid, and cleaning products

The goal isn’t perfection…it’s creating systems that make independence easier and mornings less stressful.
