I also chose the color specifically to coordinate with my headboard so the two would visually read as one upholstered bed. I built DIY sliding tile doors to hide our laundry hookups, and somehow the least qualified woodworking woman in the room survived to tell the tale. The goal: hide the wall hookups but make them easily accessible (because parents don’t need to add a step to the laundry routine). The solution: a lightweight sliding door unit made with ceiling tiles, Morcart peel-and-stick tile, sliding tracks, and a level of confidence that was not fully earned. Don’t be like me and ignore the obvious culprit in the room… The ugly hookups were definitely not helping things, but the lighting was quietly making the entire space look strange — very much like a utility closet with appliances. I actually started to hate all of the finishes in here, and I’m realizing now that the lighting was a big part of the problem. We finally swapped out the old fixture this weekend for one I was gifted a while back, and honestly, I’m annoyed I waited this long. The softer, warmer lighting made the whole room feel happier almost instantly. It’s still not finished. Not even close. I have big plans for this room and a few other little “quick projects” planned that will absolutely not be quick. 😆 But this one change made the room feel like it’s finally heading somewhere. I’ve always loved wall sconces but hiring an electrician was not in the cards. So I absolutely love that I can get rechargeable LED lights for my wall from Amazon. These in particular are peel n stick (although I recommend screwing them in as I found the adhesive was not a permanent solution). I love how they balanced out the mirror on my wall and that I can install all by myself. POV: my mom suffers from Amazon trigger finger and Prime Day just gave her better aim 😆 She surprised me with the Shady Lady 6ft faux black olive tree I've had saved (and recommended) for months — proof that mom is always right. After unboxing it, I can say it actually looks exactly like the pictures... which is awesome because the price + look were why I recommended it to begin with. Realistic trunk, full, bright leaves on manicured branches you can fluff, and it instantly filled my corner with life and greenery. It's the tall artificial olive tree every home needs right now-coming in various heights. I'm NOT keeping the black base it comes with though — stay tuned because I'm upcycling a Walmart planter to make it look high-end. Follow along for part 2! Honestly, I’m a little mad that I didn’t try this sooner! I think it turned out so well! And the hardest part was really taping, but next time I think I will do the glass protecting jelly that I used on the bottom row of pains as that seem to be a little bit faster. But as far as process went, I did the yellow base let that dry and it dried super fast then I went over it with a brown color and use the wood rocking tool immediately after and worked my way around the mirror doing that. Then I went back over with some white touches with my fan brush to give it a weathered look. Never underestimate the power of a little paint! #valsparpaint #LTKHome
Honestly, I’m mad I didn’t do this sooner! It turned out so well! I think once I got over the chore of taping, which was no small feat, it was pretty quick! Paint with yellow color, dry, paint with brown color, apply woodgrain tool, repeat. I do go back over it with other colors if the hue wasn’t quite right. Then at the end, I used my fan paintbrush to add the white weathered strokes. I did buy and paint the mirror/glass protector jelly and used that on the bottom row. That was a lot easier to apply than tape! #valsparpaint #LTKHome
